PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX –
Santino Lupica-Tondo became the No. 21 University of Rochester men's soccer's all-time leader in career shutouts, notching the 23rd of his career, while UR's offense roared to life with 22 shots and four goals in the 'Jackets' 4-0 win over the St. John Fisher University Cardinals on Tuesday evening inside Edwin Fauver Stadium.
With his 23rd-career shutout, Lupica-Tondo surpassed Michael Peacock `10 to become UR's all-time leader in career shutouts, having tallied seven in his sophomore campaign, six as a junior, five as a senior, and now five more so far as a graduate student.
After the first 20 minutes didn't see a shot between the two sides, the Yellowjackets quickly got on the scoreboard with a pair of goals in the span of five minutes. First, though, Lupica-Tondo made his first of two saves on the evening, stopping a shot from Joey Avallone in the 23rd minute.
The Yellowjackets took the ball the other way, less than a minute later breaking through.
Kamal Ibrahim dribbled on the right side of the goal and crossed it back towards
Johnny Makula, who knocked the graduate's pass off one hop into the back of the net to give Rochester a 1-0 lead.
Alessio Cristanetti-Walker then doubled that lead just over four minutes later in the 28th minute, settling the ball just outside the box and firing a 20-yard, left-footed shot past the outstretched arms of Fisher goalkeeper Christian Burkhart to make it a 2-0 Rochester advantage.
The 'Jackets continued to keep the pressure on Burkhart and the Cardinal defense, tallying 10 shots in the first half and another 12 in the second.
Minutes after his first goal, Cristanetti-Walker nearly added another forcing the first of two saves on shots by the sophomore and
EliJose Araujo in the 34th and 35th minutes, before UR again broke through just past the 40-minute mark of the first half.
Rochester again turned a cross into a score, this time from
Grant Farrill, as the first-year connected with another first-year,
Pasquale Carusone, for UR's third goal of the night. Farrill's cross found Carusone with space in front of the goal, and again the 'Jackets beat Burkhart, this time with Carusone's shot to the lower-left of the goal, opening a 3-0 lead.
After a dominant first half, the 'Jackets headed into the locker room up 3-0 and continued to look for more in the second.
Milos Bisenic got Rochester's first two shots off in the second, the second of which forced Burkhart to make a save, while Ibrahim's 56th-minute shot was blocked and resulted in a UR corner.

Two more corners set up a shot from
Nick Swanger that went wide, as well as a tremendous save from Burkhart that kept a laser from Ibrahim out of the back of the net, before Araujo and the 'Jackets made it 4-0 in the 67th minute.
Dribbling down the right side, Araujo looped what looked to be a cross toward goal, but instead snuck inside the left post for a score, giving Rochester a 4-0 lead.
Rochester kept the offensive pressure on throughout the second half, even up 4-0, and nearly made it 5-0 late as
Daniel Steinacher saw his 79th-minute shot blocked, while the Cardinals' defense kept out Steinacher's 80th-minute attempt off a corner a little over a minute later.
Defensively, UR held St. John Fisher to just four shots in the second half, none of which were on goal, as the Yellowjackets held more than 60 percent of the possession throughout the contest, cruising to a 4-0, shutout victory.
With the win, the 21st-ranked 'Jackets move to 4-1-1 on the year, while St. John Fisher falls to 2-2-2.
Offensively, Cristanetti-Walker led UR with four shots while Araujo added three. As a team, UR outshot Fisher, 22-7, and had nine corners compared to zero for the visitors.
In goal, in addition to tallying his 23rd career shutout, Lupica-Tondo earned the win and made two saves.
The Yellowjackets continue their three-game homestand with a matchup against Clarkson University on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4:00 p.m. at Fauver Stadium.
