GENESEE VALLEY PARK – It was a strong day on the water for the University of Rochester rowing team on Saturday, competing at the Head of the Genesee Regatta on its home course along the Genesee River.
 
The Yellowjackets had five entries overall in Saturday's action, with four boats securing top-3 finishes.
 
URochester's top finishers came in the collegiate 4+ racing, with the A boat finishing in second place among ten teams. Ending up right behind in third place was the Yellowjackets B entry. Overall, the two teams finished just 13 seconds apart. The second place boat finished in 20:25.788, while the B entry in third crossed the finish in 20:38.221. William Smith earned the gold medal in the race, posting a time of 19:33.833.
 
In the premier race of the day, Rochester's varsity eight A entry finished in third place among eight teams in that competition. The Yellowjackets finished with a time of 18:51.396, ending behind two William Smith teams. Rochester also had a B boat entered in that race, with that group ending in eighth place (21:00.424).
 
The Yellowjackets last boat on the day was in the open double, with UR's team ending in third place of six overall teams. Rochester finished the course in 22:18.680, ranking behind two Ithaca College boats.
 
Next weekend, the Yellowjackets will continue their fall racing schedule by competing in the annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
