FREDONIA, NY – Led by a pair of top-15 finishes, the University of Rochester men's cross country team earned a second-place result at Fredonia's Kara Hall Memorial Invitational on Saturday on the campus of SUNY Fredonia.
Liam Sakakeeny was Rochester's top finisher, coming in fourth with a time of 26:18.6, while
Joe Berry joined the sophomore in the top 10 with a sixth-place result, crossing the finish line in 26:44.5.
The Yellowjackets added two more top-20 results in
William Eskenas and
Zach Terrano, as Eskenas took 15th with a time of 27:34.2, while Terrano placed 17th with a time of 27:43.1.
Austin Skeete rounded out Rochester's top-five competitors with his 22nd-place time of 27:51.4, while
Gus Smith (26th, 27:56.1) and
Jacob Bernd (30th, 28:02.7) were URochester's displacers.
Nolan Goldthwaite and
Trevor Kuhlman finished right behind Bernd in 31st and 32nd place, with times of 28:04.0 and 28:06.7, respectively, while Jessie Rinzel (46th, 28:26.2) and
Owen Bernstein (48th, 28:37.2) made it 11 Yellowjackets in the top 50 in the 106-runner field.
SUNY Geneseo took the men's team title with 25 points, led by the top-two finishers in Kole Owens (25:38.1) and Mario Verruto (26:07.7). The Yellowjackets took second with 64 points, while SUNY Brockport finished third in the seven-team field with 90 points.
Rochester will next compete in Oberlin, OH, at the Inter-Regional Rumble, hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 11:15 a.m.
