URochester Men Finish Seventh at UAAs

EDWARDSVILLE, IL – Led by a pair of top-35 results, the University of Rochester men's cross country team finished seventh at the 2025 University Athletic Association (UAA) Cross Country Championships on Saturday, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis at the SIUE Cross Country Course.
 
James Catania finished just outside the top 20 to lead the 'Jackets, crossing the finish line in 25:27.3 to place 21st. Catania was in 37th place through the one-mile mark, but moved up 16 spots over the final two-thirds of the race to place 21st.
 
Next up for Rochester, Liam Sakakeeny finished 35th with a time of 25:52.3, while Joe Berry crossed the finish line in 26:05.4, good for 41st.
 
Zach Terrano was URochester's next-highest finisher in 60th place, clocking in at 26:47.8, while Austin Skeete rounded out the 'Jackets top-five runners, finishing right behind Terrano in 61st place with a time of 26:49.6.
 
The 'Jackets displacers were Nolan Goldthwaite in 65th place with a time of 27:02.3, and Gus Smith in 67th place, with a time of 27:12.0.
 
Rochester had one more runner finish inside the top 70, William Eskenas, who placed 70th with a time of 27:26.1, while Sam Cohen (73rd, 27:53) and Jesse Rinzel (74th, 28:01.4) cracked the top 75.
 
No. 6 NYU took home the top spot, winning the men's team title with 27 points, while No. 9 UChicago with 50 points and No. 16 Carnegie Mellon with 88 points rounded out the top three teams in the field.
 
Rochester came in seventh with 185 points, ahead of the eighth-place finisher, Brandeis, by 60 points.
 
NYU's Theo Udelson-Nee won the race with a time of 24:49.6, just 0.3 seconds against of Carnegie Mellon's Ryan Podnar in second place, who crossed the finish line in 24:49.9.
 
Rochester will next compete at the 2025 NCAA Niagara Region on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, NY, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
