GRANVILLE, OH – 19th-ranked University of Rochester men's squash fell to the 6th-ranked University of Virginia Cavaliers, 9-0, on Saturday in a neutral-site contest at the Denison Squash Courts to open their 2025-26 campaign.
Dhirren Rajarathinam was the lone Yellowjacket to take a set from the Cavaliers, taking the third game from UVA's J.P. Tew, 11-9, before falling in four. Tew topped Rajarathinam at the second spot on the ladder: 11-2, 11-4, 9-11, 11-8, in the first round of matches, as the Cavaliers took an early lead with a pair of sweeps and Tew's four-set win.
Oscar Okonkwo topped
Preston Wu at No. 6: 11-2, 11-7, 11-4, while Henry Raine topped
Karim Moataz, 11-2, 11-4, 11-4, in the opening sequence of play.
With three more sweeps at the No. 3, 4 and 8 spots, the Cavaliers clinched the match, before finishing off the sweep with wins at No. 1, 5 and 9.
At the No. 3 spot, Dylan Moran topped
Arjith Mathew, 11-0, 11-7, 11-2, while Krishna Mishra defeated
Van Inman-Benavente, 11-3, 11-6, 11-1, at the No. 4 spot on the ladder.
Virginia wrapped up the second-round sweep with Ewan Harris' 11-2, 11-5, 11-4 win over
Victor Xu at the No. 8 spot, while in the final round of play, Isaac Mitchell topped
Sam Knoll at No. 9, 11-1, 11-2, 11-.
At No. 1, Juan Irisarri defeated
Gilberto Aceves Moreno, 11-5, 11-6, 11-5, and at No. 5, the Cavaliers picked up their final win, with Natahn Rosenzweig earning an 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 win over
Thomas Valderrama.
With the win, No. 6 UVA moves to 2-0 on the year, while the 'Jackets drop to 0-1.
The Yellowjackets will look to bounce back when they wrap up their opening weekend in Granville, OH, against Denison on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 10:30 a.m.
