#15 Rochester, #18 Carnegie Mellon End in Scoreless Stalemate

PITTSBURGH, PA – In its final road game of the regular season, No. 15 University of Rochester women's soccer battled No. 18 Carnegie Mellon to a scoreless draw on Saturday afternoon at the CMU Soccer Field.

The two sides combined for just nine shots over the course of 90 minutes, just two of which went on goal, and both of which came in the first 16 minutes.

Natalie Santangelo notched the 'Jackets' lone shot on goal in the 15th minute, firing a blast from the left wing to force a leaping save from Maddie Kellogg, resulting in a corner.

Kellogg then corralled the ensuing corner, and the Tartans would notch their lone shot on goal just over a minute later. From just outside the box, Audrey Bianco curled a shot towards the far post, but Sydney Moore was there for the save, keeping things scoreless shy of the 16-minute mark.

That'd be the last time either goalie was threatened the rest of the way, with just seven shots, none of which were on goal, and three corner kicks the rest of the way.

Skylar Hendricks and Cece Vassallo each sent shots wide before the halftime buzzer sounded, with Hendricks' 40th-minute attempt missing left, while Vassallo's sailed high.

Carnegie Mellon would threaten early in the second half with a trio of corners, but Rochester's defense drew an offsides call on the first, while the Tartans' shots on the second and third went wide and were blocked.

Delia McMullen took both of Rochester's second-half chances, with the first-year's 71st-minute attempt missing to the left, while her 83rd-minute volley was blocked by the Tartan defense.

With just under two-and-a-half minutes left, the Tartans would try to put together one last opportunity, but the 'Jackets blocked Margherita Memoli's attempt and kept Carnegie Mellon without a shot the rest of the way.

With the draw, Rochester moves to 8-2-6 (2-2-2 UAA) on the year, while the Tartans now stand at 9-4-4 (0-3-3 UAA).

Individually, McMullen led URochester with two shots, while Bianco had two to lead the Tartans. In goal, both Moore and Kellogg each tallied a save.

The Yellowjackets will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 8, when they host Emory University at 7:30 p.m. inside Fauver Stadium.
