GRANVILLE, OH – The University of Rochester squash team earned its first win of the 2025-26 season, defeating host Denison University 6-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Denison Squash Courts.
Four Yellowjacket players earned 3-0 sweeps on the day, led by junior co-captain
Dhirren Rajarathinam who played number two on Sunday. Joining him as a winner in three games were sophomores
Thomas Valderrama,
Preston Wu and
Karim Moataz and positions five, six and seven, respectively.
19th-ranked Rochester (1-1) got its other wins from first-year
Arjith Mathew at number three and sophomore
Victor Xu at number eight.
The first wave of matches saw URochester claim three wins. Wu started things off with an 11-5, 11-3, 11- win over Rayyan Arif. Following that was Moataz's sweep over Aimaan Zakaria 11-9, 11-4 and 11-3, with Rajarathinam completing the opening wave sweep with an 11-6, 11-6, 11-0 win over Charlie Fenwick.
In wave two, Rochester clinched the match with wins from Xu and Mathew before Denison (0-2) secured its first point. Xu won 9-11, 11-8, 11-7 and 11-3 over Owen Mullaly while Mathew topped Alex DeLuca 11-5, 11-8, 11-13 and 11-7. The Big Red's first point came from Jackson Bragman versus
Van Inman-Benavente at number four (12-10, 4-11, 11-8, 12-10).
Denison finished the match earning two of three points in the final wave, but the Yellowjackets had already secured the overall win. Wylly Molten IV won in three games over
Sam Knoll at nine 11-3, 11-4 and 11-5, while Juan Felipe Hernandez earned a four game win (11-7, 11-9, 4-11, 11-7) at the top spot against
Gilberto Aceves Moreno. Rochester's final win came from Valderrama against Ross Falcon, with the UR sophomore claiming an 11-8, 11-4, 11-3 win.
Rochester returns home and will host Western University and MIT next weekend on Friday and Sunday.
