Men’s Hoops Moves to 4-0 with Victory Over St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, NY – The University of Rochester men's basketball team kept its strong start to the 2025-26 season going on Friday evening, improving to 4-0 with an 86-68 win over St. John Fisher University in the opening game of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout at Nazareth University's Kidera Gymnasium.

Rochester was led by senior Tomiwa Adetosoye who scored 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He added seven assists and five rebounds in the victory. Sophomore teammate Justin Odibo sank five treys and ended with 19 points, while Theo Murray and Jordan Owusu chipped in ten and nine points off the bench, respectively.

The Yellowjacket defense combined to force 18 St. John Fisher (2-4) turnovers, leading to 19 points for URochester. Additionally, UR held the Cardinals to just 3-for-21 (14%) shooting from long range for the contest, with St. John Fisher also struggling from the charity stripe, making just 50% (11-22).

After six early points by Maximus Michalski gave St. John Fisher a 6-5 lead, Rochester's Adetosoye sank back-to-back jump shots to take the lead for good for the Yellowjackets.

The two Adetosoye baskets kickstarted a 13-4 Rochester run that boosted the lead to eight points after five and a half minutes of play. Adetosoye had nine points in the spurt, with Odibo and Sam Henderson each chipping in a basket.

Jack Janes stopped the run, scoring four straight points to get St. John Fisher back within four, but Luke Razi and Owusu notched baskets to quickly regain Rochester's eight-point advantage. Odibo's first 3-pointer of the night built the lead to nine at the midway point of the half.

The lead remained between four and six points until the 'Jackets exploded on a 15-0 burst late in the half to bust the game open. Murray hit a jumper to start things off, with Odibo and Owusu hitting back-to-back triples to cap the run, making the Rochester lead 51-30.

St. John Fisher closed the half with six straight points on a pair of and-one plays, sending the teams into halftime with Rochester up 15.

In the second half, the Yellowjacket lead never got down to single-digits, as Rochester continued to impress during the Mark's Pizzeria Tournament, improving its record in the event to 14-3 in the ninth annual tournament featuring several Rochester-area College programs.

The Yellowjackets held a big advantage on the glass in the win, outrebounding the Cardinals 51-39. John Mayhew led URochester with nine boards, while Bernard Dushie Jr. had a nice game with 4 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assits and 2 steals. Henderson and Corvin Oprea each finished with five points and five rebounds.

Up next, Rochester plays host Nazareth University in Saturday's tournament finale at 4 pm. St. John Fisher takes on St. Lawrence University in the other tournament matchup on Saturday afternoon.
