No. 19 University of Rochester men's squash defeated the 24th-ranked Chatham University Cougars, 7-2, on Friday evening inside the Lyman Squash Center.

With the Cougars only fielding eight players, the Yellowjackets opened the match with a 1-0 lead, with
Sam Knoll earning a win by default at the No. 9 spot on the ladder.

The Yellowjackets then swept the first round of matches to extend their lead to 4-0, picking up wins at the No. 2, 6 and 8 spots.
Victor Xu got Rochester on the board with an 11-2, 11-6, 11-6, win over Chatham's Obed Roman Garcia at the eight spot, while
Preston Wu made it 3-0 with a 3-1 win (7-11, 11-1, 11-5, 11-5) over Brett Poles.

Dhirren Rajarathinam finished off the opening round sweep with a 9-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-6 win over Agustin Carranza, giving Rochester a 4-0 lead headed into the second round of action.

The Cougars would win the next two matches, as Muhammad Hassaan Raza topped
Van Inman-Benavente at No. 4, 11-6, 11-3, 12-10, and Abdelrahman Sadek edged
Arjith Mathew, 5-11, 11-6, 11-6, 13-11, at No. 3 to pull Chatham within two points, 4-2.

However,
Karim Moataz would earn the clincher at the No. 7 spot on the ladder, giving the Yellowjackets the win with an 11-6, 7-11, 13-11, 11-8 victory over Keyel Beasley.

URochester would add two more wins before things wrapped up, taking the match, 7-2, to earn their second victory over the year.
Thomas Valderrama topped Alejandro Cruz at the No. 5 spot, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9, before
Gilberto Aceves Moreno came from behind to top Sebastian Antonio Vaca Sanchez in five games: 11-2, 7-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-2.

With the win, Rochester moves to 2-3 on the year, while Chatham falls to 2-6.

The Yellowjackets will return to the courts on Sunday, Dec. 7, when they host No. 15 Navy at 11:00 a.m. in their final match of the calendar year.
