Rochester Posts Nearly Perfect Win in Season-Opener

The University of Rochester men's tennis team earned a nearly flawless 7-0 victory over visiting Nazareth University in the dual match season-opener on Saturday afternoon at the Goergen Athletic Center.

Rochester combined to drop just five games total across all nine matches spanning singles and doubles to move to 1-0 on the year. The loss moves Nazareth to 2-3 so far this season.

During Saturday's match, UR breezed through its first two doubles matches, winning 6-0 in each, before completing the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win to earn the one doubles team point.

Rahul Ravi and Josh Chu paired for the first victory at third doubles over Enoch Li and David Tuller, with Krish Vennam and Ethan Samora earning the same 6-0 score at the top spot. That duo defeated Griffin Bond and Pierre Ntonga.

At two, Alan Wang and Surya Rajamani earned the final doubles match win over Noah Britton and Chris Benedict.

With play switching to singles, the Yellowjackets continued to showcase their skills on the court with four of the six matches ending with 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Ravi had a shutout at three against Britton, with Andy Liu following suit at the fourth spot in the order, defeating Li.

Wang posted the match-clinching victory at number two against Ntonga, winning 6-1, 6-0, while Vennam, a regionally-ranked singles player in the northeast, was wrapping up a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top spot against Bond.

Finishing off the match, Eitan Fay dispatched Tuller 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles, with Chu closing out action with a 6-1, 6-1 match win over Benedict at five.

Vennam, Wang, Ravi and Chu were double-winners during Rochester's first dual match of the season.

UR remains home for its next match, set for next Saturday against University Athletic Association rival and 4th-ranked Case Western Reserve University.
