In just its second match of the regular season, the University of Rochester men's tennis team squared off with 4th-ranked Case Western Reserve University on Saturday morning, falling by a 7-0 score to the visiting Spartans at the Goergen Athletic Center.

With the win, CWRU moves to 3-0 in the early part of the tennis dual match season, while Rochester drops to 1-1.

The Spartans started strong, earning wins in all three doubles matches to secure the doubles team point. At number one, Anmay Devaraj and Casey Hishinuma opened the day with a 6-0 win over
Krish Vennam and
Ethan Samora.

Shortly after, the third doubles team of Trey Lambright and George Kosseifi won 6-2 over
Alan Wang and
Surya Rajamani to clinch the doubles point. CWRU's Rohan Bhat and Justin Prochnow completed the win streak in doubles with a 6-4 win over
Rahul Ravi and
Josh Chu.

With play switching to singles, the number one match between Vennam and Ajay Mahenthiran finished first after Vennam had to retire in the second set, trailing 6-1, 4-2. Mahenthiran is a nationally ranked player in Division III, while both players are regionally ranked.

Devaraj, another regionally ranked Spartan, topped Ravi at third singles 6-1, 6-2 to boost the score to 3-0. Kosseifi then earned the clincher with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Wang at number two.

The Spartans finished off the sweep with three more straight set wins. At four, Matthew Plunkett won 6-4, 6-1 over
Kavin Shukla.

The closest singles match was at fifth singles, with Salazar Garza topping
Andy Liu 6-1, 7-6 (1), while Chu dropped his contest at sixth singles to Rowan Matorin 6-1, 6-3.

UR's next match completes its three-match home stretch to open the year, with the 'Jackets hosting RIT next Saturday at 2 pm.
