It was a smashing start to the dual match season for the University of Rochester women's tennis team, with the Yellowjackets blanking visiting Nazareth University 7-0 in action at the Goergen Athletic Center on Saturday.
Rochester (1-0) opened up the 2025 season by sweeping through all three doubles matches, securing that team point before earning six straight-set wins in singles play to complete the shutout.
All six players in the Yellowjacket lineup were double-winners.
The loss drops Nazareth to 8-6, as the Golden Flyers compete mostly in the fall portion of the season.
In doubles, UR opened up with a 6-0 win from
Jasmin Toor and
Lilly Caldwell at the number two spot, defeating Sarah Stone and Ali Klee.
Josephine Libby and
Katie Yang, a regionally ranked duo at the number one spot for Rochester secured the doubles victory for UR with a 6-1 triumph, topping Catherine Zak and Kenna Ellis. At third doubles,
Sahithi Mathukumilli and
Maya Bravo completed the sweep following a 6-2 win over Anna Spencer and Victoria Cioni.
When play shifted to singles, the Yellowjackets kept the hot hand, with Yang blanking Stone 6-0, 6-0 at number three for the second point of the day. Libby followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the top spot against Zak to pull UR in front 3-0 in the team match.
Rochester's Bravo earned the match-clinching point in her first collegiate match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Cioni at four.
Completing the sweep was Toor winning 6-1, 6-3 over Ellis at number two, while Caldwell and Mathukumilli won at five and six, respectively over Klee and Spencer. Caldwell won 6-1, 6-1, with Mathukumilli earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Rochester's next match of the spring semester season is next week at Division I University at Buffalo.
