‘Jackets Fall at Buffalo, 7-0

BUFFALO, NY – University of Rochester women's tennis suffered their first loss of the season, falling to NCAA Division I University at Buffalo, 7-0, on Saturday evening at the UB Tennis Courts.
 
The Bulls would pick up the doubles point to take an early lead, winning the second and third doubles matches. At No. 3 doubles, Liv Roestel and Blanca Berges topped Maya Bravo and Sahithi Mathukumilli, 6-0, while at No. 2 doubles, Jagmeet Kaur and Marta Giglio downed Jasmin Toor and Lily Caldwell, 6-1.
 
UR's No. 1 double pair of Josephine Libby and Katie Yang would prove to be competitive in their match, tailing 4-2 against Esmee Andresen and Maria Glowacka before the match was suspended and left unfinished with Buffalo clinching the doubles point.
 
In singles action, the Bulls would take all six singles matches to finish off the victory, clinching the match victory at No. 2 singles.
 
The Bulls picked up their first singles point at the sixth position, as Deanne Choo topped Mathukumilli, 6-0, 6-0, while Julia Laspro sped by Bravo at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1, to make it 3-0 in favor of Buffalo.
 
UB's Berges came up with the clinching point at No. 2 singles, defeating Toor, 6-1, 6-1, to put Buffalo ahead 4-0, before the Bulls took the last three points at No. 1, 4 and 5 singles.
 
At No. 1 singles, Libby took three points from Glowacka but fell, 6-2, 6-1, while Caldwell and Yang did the same in their singles matches. Caldwell and Yang each took one point in the first set and two in the second before falling, Caldwell to Giglio at No. 5 singles, and Yang to Liv Roestel at No. 4 singles.
 
With the win, the Bulls remain unbeaten at 10-0 on the year, while UR drops to 1-1 with the loss.
 
The Yellowjackets are back in action next Saturday, Feb. 15 when they host RIT at 10:00 a.m. inside the Goergen Athletic Center.
