Women's Tennis Secures 5-2 Win over RIT

University of Rochester women's tennis defeated the RIT Tigers, 5-2, on Saturday morning inside the Goergen Athletic Center to notch their second win of the season.

Josephine Libby, Sanjana Karnam and Katie Yang were all double-winners for UR, as the 'Jackets bounced back from an early defeat at No. 2 doubles to take the doubles point before reeling off three of the first four singles matches to earn the win.

After Maya McDaniel and Melanie Saborio topped Jasmin Toor and Lilly Caldwell, 6-4, in the second doubles match, UR's Maya Bravo and Karnam leveled doubles play at one-all with a 6-4 win over Gabby Donahue and Abby Murray.

Then at No. 1 doubles, Libby and Yang battled back from an early deficit to defeat Kira Kronenberg and Emily Greb, 7-5, to secure an early 1-0 lead.

Libby quickly made it 2-0 UR with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Kronenberg at No. 1 singles, while Greb earned the Tigers their first points of the match with a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Bravo at No. 3 singles.

Karnam then won the fifth singles match in two sets, 6-3, 6-0, over RIT's Abby Murray, to bring up match point, and Yang came up with the clincher at the four spot. Yang won the fourth singles match in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, over Saborio to clinch the win, while UR would finish off the 5-2 victory with another win at six singles.

At No. 2 singles, McDaniel edged Toor, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, before Neha Dania wrapped up the match and victory for the Yellowjackets with a 6-1, 6-2 win at six singles over Donahue.

With the win, the Yellowjackets move to 2-1 on the season, while RIT drops to 2-2.
