ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester women's tennis team picked up its third win of the season on Saturday, defeating host Ithaca College 4-3 at Glazer Arena.
Two Yellowjackets were double-winners on the day, with both
Maya Bravo and
Sanjana Karnam winning in both singles and doubles play. Rochester's clinching-point was earned by
Neha Dania after she rallied from a set down to win in three.
The victory pushes Rochester to 3-2 on the year, with the Bombers dropping to 1-3 on the season. So far in 2025, the Yellowjackets have alternated wins and losses in each of its five matches.
UR, who is 3-0 against Division III opponents this season, plays at St. Lawrence University on Sunday morning in its next matchup.
Saturday's match got off to a smashing start for the Yellowjackets with UR taking all three doubles matches to earn the one team doubles point.
The second doubles team of Bravo and Karnam won 6-2 to get things started. At third doubles,
Jasmin Toor and
Lilly Caldwell earned a 6-4 win to clinch the point, while
Josephine Libby and
Katie Yang completed the sweep with a 7-5 win at the top spot.
As play switched over to singles, several of the contests proved to be evenly matched, with three going the full three-set distances.
Karnam made quick work of Lauren Rodriguez at fourth singles to earn UR's second point of the overall match, winning 6-4, 6-1.
Ithaca rallied to tie it at number one and two, with Taylor Crain and Alys Pop both winning in three-set matches just minutes apart. Crain defeated Libby at number one 6-0, 6-7 and 6-1, while Pop upended Toor with a similar score line, winning 6-1, 6-7 and 6-4.
The Yellowjackets regained momentum when Bravo outlasted Sabrina Cheung at number three in a long two-set match, posting a 7-6, 6-4 win to put Rochester head 3-2 in the team match.
With Rochester one point away from clinching the match, Ithaca's Madeleine Sutro took a one set lead against Dania at fifth singles. Dania was able to fend off her Bomber opponent in the second, winning 6-4 and later took a 6-2 decision in the tie breaking third set to clinch the match for Rochester.
In the final match of the day, Ithaca's Ava Casell-Lapetina battled UR's Caldwell at sixth singles. Casell-Lapetina ended up winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
