Women’s Tennis Drops Weekend Finale at SLU

CANTON, NY – The University of Rochester women's tennis fell to St. Lawrence University, 5-2, on Sunday morning inside Neweel Field House.
 
Maya Bravo and Josephine Libby scored the Yellowjackets' lone wins in singles play, as Bravo topped SLU's Yvette Karera at No. 4 singles: 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, bouncing back from a first-set loss, while Libby topped Angelica Aksdal-Jansen at No. 1 singles: 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
 
The Saints won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point and open an early 1-0 lead. At No. 2 doubles, Ariane Karera and Yvette Karera topped Maya Bravo and Sanjana Karnam, 6-4, while Molly Jespersen and Eleanor McDermed defeated Libby and Katie Yang at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, to secure the doubles win.
 
At No. 3 doubles, Elisa Iuri and Aksdal-Jansen finished off SLU's doubles sweep with a 6-2 win over Jasmin Toor and Lilly Caldwell, while Iuri then kept things rolling into singles action with the Saints' first win in singles play.
 
Iuri beat Karnam at No. 5 singles: 6-2, 6-4, while McDermed topped Neha Dania at No. 6 singles: 6-3, 6-3, to quickly put the Saints up 3-0 and set up the clincher.
 
Bravo earned UR's first singles and point at No. 4 singles to hold off St. Lawrence for one match, but Jespersen finished off the victory for the Saints with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Toor at No. 2 singles.
 
The Saints would then add one more win at No. 3 singles, where Ariane Kerera outlasted Yang: 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 6-4, before Libby earned UR's second win at No. 1 singles to finish off the match, 5-2.
 
With the win, St. Lawrence remains unbeaten at 3-0 on the year, while Rochester falls to 3-3.
 
The Yellowjackets are back in action on Saturday, March 1, hosting Union College to kick off a three-game homestand at 10:00 a.m. inside the Goergen Athletic Center.
