ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester swimming and diving team wrapped up its season on Saturday afternoon, with five divers from the women's team representing the Yellowjackets at the Division NCAA Region 4 Diving Championships at Ithaca College's Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium.
First-year
Kaela Springer paced the Yellowjackets for the second day in a row, securing 13th place among the 25-diver field. Springer scored 392.35 points and was followed closely by teammates
Lizzie Budde and
Lilia MacKenzie in 15th and 16th, respectively.
Budde scored 385.00 points and MacKenzie wrapped up the 11-dive performance with 382.95 points.
Rounding out UR's lineup at regionals was
Julia Sides who finished 20th with 370.80 points and
Marlena Vieira who scored 350.90 points, good for 23rd place.
Springer's effort was aided by four dives that scored 40 or more points. Her reverse 2 ½ somersault tuck netted 50.40 points, getting three 6.0 scores from the judges times a 2.8 degree of difficulty. Additionally, Springer scored 46.80 points on the forward 2 ½ somersault pike and 44.85 points on the reverse 1 ½ somersault pike.
For Budde, the top scoring dive for the senior was the inward two somersault tuck, which received scoring marks of 6.5, 6.5 and 6.0 to score 45.60 points. Her next dive, a back 1 ½ somersault straight was also above 40 points, scoring 42.00 points.
MacKenzie averaged a team-best 5.82 counting judges score on the day. Her top dives were a 43.20-point effort on both the inward two somersault tuck and a back 1 ½ somersault straight. She capped her dive list with another 43.20 score on the back 1 1/2 somersault, 1 ½ twist free dive.
Sides' top scoring dive of the day was her last one as well, scoring 48.00 points on the back 1 ½ somersault tuck, 1 ½ twist free. That dive received two 6.5 and one 7.0 scoring judges marks. Sides also had a 42.00 point total on the inward two somersault tuck and added 40.95 points to her score on the inward 1 ½ somersault pike.
UR's Vieira averaged 5.05 scoring marks from the judges throughout the day, and saw her forward 2 ½ somersault pike and the back 1 ½ somersault straight finish as the top-scoring, adding 39.60 points to her total.
