Four individuals from the University of Rochester women's swimming and diving program were honored today by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), receiving Academic All-District honors for their efforts in the classroom and their performance in the pool.

Earning the accolades this season are seniors Gloria Ng and Leah Tang, junior Morgan Edstrom and sophomore Rachele Bachmann.

The 2024-25 CSC Academic All-District® Women's Swimming & Diving Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must have competed in at least five competitions or finished inside the top-8 at a conference meet.

For Ng, the senior excelled in the breaststroke this season, posting top times of 1:06.38 in the 100-yard distance and 2:24.84 in the 200-yard distance. At the UAA Championships in February, Ng swam to a 17th place finish in the 100 breaststroke, ended 20th in the 200 breaststroke and was a part of two scoring relays for Rochester. Overall for her career, Ng ranks third in school history in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.19) and is fourth all-time in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.65).

Academically, Ng is majoring in Health Policy and is minoring in Business and Biology at the University. She is a member of the Society for Undergraduate Public Health Students and received the Alan and Jane Handler Scholarship from Rochester. A three-time UAA All-Academic selection, Ng, has also done research work and an internship with Dr. Scott McIntosh at the UR Medical Center, focusing on Tobacco Cessation and Prevention.

Tang has shown versatility during her time in the pool over her four years, being ranked inside the top-10 all-time in UR history in five individual events, coming in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly. Tang also is on UR's school record 800-yard freestyle relay squad. This season, the senior scored in seven events for the Yellowjackets at the UAA Championships, being on four of UR's 'A' relays while also notching top-24 positions in the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle.

Now a three-time CSC Academic All-District selection, Tang has been highly decorated over her academic career on the River Campus. She is a three-time UAA All-Academic honoree, named a Provost Circle Scholar, and was elected Phi Beta Kappa as a junior. Majoring in Molecular Genetics and Health, Behavior and Society, Tang has been a T-A for four different classes at Rochester, while also completing research work at the UR Medical Center, Kunming Medical College and the Department of Public Health Science. She has been named Dean's list every semester and plans to attend Medical School in the fall. Her volunteer exploits also include spending time with the Friends of Strong program at Strong Memorial Hospital.

For Edstrom, her strengths in the pool came in the freestyle events, with the junior swimming four different distances, ranging from 50 yards to 500 yards in the 2024-25 season. Edstrom has been one of UR's top individual and relay scorers during her time on the squad and finished in a scoring position in six of seven events at the UAA Championships in February. Those results included a 16th place finish in the 100 freestyle, 19th place result in the 50 freestyle while also swimming on four of UR's 'A' relays.

Away from the pool, Edstrom has earned two UAA All-Academic awards and is majoring in Mechanical Engineering, while also working towards a minor in Aerospace Engineering. The junior has received the Dean's Scholarship from the University and is actively pursing engineering internships for the summer of 2025. Her plans include possibly attending graduate school to further her education in aerospace or biomedical engineering. Additionally, Edstrom spent time volunteering at the Episcopal Senior Living Center in Rochester, assisting residents. She also was a volunteer during last years solar eclipse, educating people who were deaf or hard of hearing.

In the pool, Bachmann piled up six top-3 finishes for Rochester this season, with her top events being the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. The sophomore posted three season-best performances at the UAA Championships in February, scoring top-24 finishes in both the 400 IM and 200 butterfly. Additionally, Bachmann cracked the top-10 all-time in team history in the 200 butterfly and swam UR's fastest times this season in that event and the 400 IM.

A Chemical Engineering major at the University, Bachmann earned her first UAA All-Academic award this season and is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, UR Robotics Club and ChemE Car. She received two scholarships and has been a T-A for two classes already during her first two years on campus.
