The University of Rochester men's tennis fell in its weekend finale to the 36th-ranked Hamilton College Continentals, 5-2, on Sunday morning inside the Goergen Athletic Center, snapping their three-game winning streak.
Hamilton took all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match, and then won three of the first four singles matches to clinch the win.
Anson Anderson and Tarun Korwar picked up the Continentals' first doubles win, topping
Alan Wang and
Surya Rajamani, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles. Then at No. 2 doubles, Lleyton Mendieta and Eerik Aadamsoo secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over UR's
Ahaan Malhotra and
Kavin Shukla, before Charlie Sternberg and Antonio Chavez wrapped up the doubles sweep, edging
Eitan Fay and
Ethan Samora at No. 3 doubles, 7-5.
Shukla earned Rochester its first win of the match to start singles action, topping Aadamsoo at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-3, but the Continentals would answer back with the next three singles points to clinch the win.
At No. 3 singles, Korwar, ranked 19th in the region, dispatched
Rahul Ravi, 6-1, 6-4, while Anderson topped
Krish Vennam at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
Coby Feldman secured the victory for Hamilton with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Rajamani at No. 6 singles, and the Continentals would add one more win at the No. 2 spot, where Mendieta eked out a three-set victory over
Alan Wang: 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).
Rochester wrapped up the match with its second singles win of the morning at No. 5 singles, as
Andy Liu topped Ignatio Tran, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).
Rochester moves to 5-3 on the year with the loss, while the 36th-ranked Continentals move to 1-0 with the win.
The Yellowjackets are back in action on Saturday, March 22 when they host Allegheny College at 3:00 p.m.
