ITHACA, NY – The University of Rochester women's tennis team wrapped up its weekend against NCAA Division I Cornell University, falling to the Big Red on Sunday afternoon, 7-0, at the Reis Tennis Center.
The Big Red would sweep the match, winning all three singles and all six singles matches to earn a 7-0 victory and snap UR's three-match win streak dating to March 1. Cornell now sits at 9-3 on the year with the win, while the Yellowjackets fall to 6-4.
Emma Baker and Michelle Ryndin earned the Big Red's first doubles win at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, over
Josephine Libby and
Katie Yang, while Martina Marica and Sage Loudon secured the doubles point with a 6-0 win over
Lilly Caldwell and
Neha Dania at No. 3 doubles.
Cornell would finish off the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, where Alexandra Savu and Jenny Wong topped
Jasmin Toor and
Sanjana Karnam before Savu kept things rolling in singles action with the Big Red's first singles win.
Savu defeated
Maya Bravo at No. 4 singles: 6-1, 6-1, while Tanya Fan topped Karnam at No. 5 singles: 6-0, 6-0, putting the Big Red up 3-0.
Seychelle Balog clinched the match for Cornell with a 6-0, 6-1 win over
Neha Dania at No. 6 singles, while Andrea Martinez De Los Rios added another win to the Big Red's tally with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
Wong next topped Yang: 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, before Libby and Loudon wrapped up the match at No. 1 singles.
Libby took four points from Loudon in the first game, and another three in the second, but the Big Red first-year would pick up the win, 6-4, 6-3, to finish off the 7-0 victory for Cornell.
The Yellowjackets are back in action on Friday, March 28 when they host Houghton University at 4:00 p.m. inside the Goergen Athletic Center.
