St. Lawrence Rallies for Win Over UR Lacrosse

CANTON, NY – Host St. Lawrence University turned in a stout second half performance, outscoring Rochester 8-1 to earn a 12-7 comeback victory on Saturday afternoon at Hall-Leet Stadium.
 
The Liberty League victory pushed St. Lawrence's record to 5-7 overall on the year and 3-3 in Liberty League play, while Rochester falls to 4-9 on the season and 1-6 in the conference.
 
Over the opening two quarters, Rochester outscored the Saints 3-2 in both periods, holding a 6-4 lead at intermission.
 
UR scored the opening two goals of the contest, with Kassi Boehl and Gracie Giannettino scoring first for Rochester. After St. Lawrence's Cate Rathnam got the hosts on the board, Anna Rogers connected for a 3-1 lead for the Yellowjackets. SLU's Jessica LaPlaca scored less than a minute later though, to complete the opening quarter scores.
 
Less than five minutes into the second, Giannettino and Alyssa Gorny connected on back-to-back goals just 40 seconds apart to boost the Rochester lead to 5-2.
 
Similar to the first quarter, Rathnam and LaPlaca found the net for St. Lawrence, sandwiching Giannettino's third goal of the game to move the score to 6-4 at halftime.
 
After intermission, it was nearly all St. Lawrence, with the Saints scoring all six goals in the third quarter to take a 10-6 advantage. Caroline Hamilton and Jessica LaPlaca scored unassisted tallied to level the score, before Neve Ley, Keira Dodd (two) and LaPlaca closed out the third quarter run of goals for the Saints.
 
With play shifting to the fourth, Rochester's Gorny got on the scoresheet again, pulling Rochester within 10-7, but the Yellowjackets were held without a goal the rest of the way, with SLU adding two more scores to finish off the victory.
 
For the day, Rochester was limited to just 14 shot attempts, including just three in the second half. St. Lawrence held a 38-14 lead in shots and corralled 15 of 23 draw controls.
 
In the goals, UR's Isla Ablin made 12 saves in the loss, while Zoe Froimovitz picked up the win, making six stops.
 
UR's next contest is its final non-conference matchup of the season, playing at Hamilton on Tuesday evening at 6 pm.
