CLINTON, NY – The University of Rochester women's lacrosse team dropped the final game of their 2025 non-conference slate, falling to the Hamilton College Continentals, 15-4, on Tuesday evening at Withiam Field.
The Continentals took an early lead and never looked back, holding Rochester without a score till the 9:21 mark of the third quarter as they took an 8-0 advantage at the half and a 10-0 lead before the Jackets finally found the back of the net.
Aine Cleary got Hamilton on the scoreboard just past the 11-and-a-half-minute mark of the first, the first of three first-quarter goals for the home side. The Continentals would add five more goals in the second period to take an 8-0 lead at the halftime break, and then two more to start the third, both from Leyna Schlaefer, before
Sara Mendelson broke the shutout with a goal from
Lorelei King.
Mendelson notched UR's first goal of the night with 9:21 left in the third, and the Yellowjackets would add three more in the fourth before the final buzzer sounded.
Trailing 11-1 after three,
Jennifer Bekos scored her first career goal to open the fourth quarter with a free-position shot, while
Anne Traczyk scored twice to bring Rochester's tally up to four.
Hamilton would add four more goals in the fourth to increase their lead to 15-4 before the final buzzer sounded, wrapping up their third-straight non-conference victory.
With the win, Hamilton moves to 4-8 on the season, while the Yellowjackets drop to 4-10.
Offensively, Traczyk led the 'Jackets with two scores while
Alyssa Gorny and King each tallied an assist. Defensively,
Maddie Bunting and
Campbell Sy each picked up two ground balls, while five different Yellowjackets caused a turnover.
In goal,
Isla Ablin made 16 saves, facing 42 shots, 31 of which were on goal.
For Hamilton, Maddigan Leifer scored a game-high four goals on nine shots, while Leyna Schlaefer added three goals and an assist.
Statistically, the Continentals outshot UR, 42-10, and forced 21 turnovers, compared to just 13 for Hamilton.
Rochester next wraps up its road slate with a Liberty League matchup against No. 10 William Smith on Saturday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. in Geneva, NY.
