‘Jackets Fall at #10 William Smith

GENEVA, NY – The University of Rochester lacrosse team battled its toughest opponent of the season on Saturday, falling at 10th-ranked William Smith College by a 17-6 score at Ulrick Stadium.
 
William Smith remains unbeaten in Liberty League play with the victory, moving to 11-3 overall and 8-0 in conference. Rochester's record falls to 4-11 on the season and 1-7 in Liberty League play.
 
The host Herons got off to a quick start in this one, leading 7-0 after the opening 15 minutes. William Smith boosted the lead to 12-2 at halftime and cruised to the victory.
 
UR finished strong, scoring three times in the fourth quarter, matching the Herons in that final frame.
 
Alyssa Gorny paced the Yellowjacket offense scoring three times on six shots. She added four draw controls and two ground balls. Lorelei King, Kassi Boehl and Sara Mendelson chipped in the other goals for Rochester.
 
In goal, Isla Ablin was peppered with 27 shots on goal and made 10 saves. Rochester, as a team, tallied 16 shot attempts and secured 13 draw controls and 11 ground balls. Maddie Bunting tied Gorny for the team lead with four draws, also leading UR with three ground balls.
 
For William Smith, three players had three or more goals, led by Katherine Murray who had four goals and one assist for five total points. Kayla Quirk and Taryn Luzi each notched four points, on three goals and one assist. Mia Falco scored twice and dished out two helpers. In goal, Maura Smeader earned the win, making seven saves for the Herons.
 
Rochester wraps up its season with two more home games next weekend, hosting Bard on Friday at 2 pm and Union on Saturday at 2 pm.
