TCNJ Edges UR by 4-3 Score

EWING, NJ – The College of New Jersey women's tennis team held on for a 4-3 victory over the University of Rochester in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the TCNJ Tennis Center.
 
The loss snaps a four-match win streak for Rochester, dropping the Yellowjackets to 10-5 overall on the season. The host Lions improve to 9-5 with their win over the #36 ranked Rochester squad.
 
To open play, the doubles point proved to be key, as the teams split singles, with each earning three wins there.
 
In doubles, TCNJ's Zoey Albert and Shruti Mannan earned a 6-2 win at the top spot to open things up against Josephine Libby and Katie Yang. UR leveled the score with a 6-1 win from Jasmin Toor and Sanjana Karnam at two, topping Aira Abalos and Anusha Perinkolam.
 
The deciding doubles point was earned by Elizabeth Ring and Gabriella Robinson at three, with the Lions duo winning 6-4 against Lilly Caldwell and Neha Dania.
 
Up 1-0 on the team scoreboard, TCNJ made it 3-0 after a pair of straight set wins from Mannan and Robinson at #3 and #4 singles, respectively. Mannan won 6-3, 6-0 over Yang, while Robinson defeated Toor 6-3, 6-1.
 
Rochester's Libby broke the shutout with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win over Albert at number one.
 
TNCJ's Abalos followed though with a victory against Maya Bravo at number two, claiming the match-clinching point. Abalos won a marathon opening set 7-6 (10) and the took the second 6-2, earning TNCJ's fourth team point.
 
Rochester captured the final two singles matches, with Karnam winning 6-3, 6-0 over Ring at five and Dania topping Gabrielle Brideau 6-2, 6-4 at number six.
 
UR returns to the court on Sunday afternoon, playing at UAA rival NYU at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx. The match starts at 1 pm.
