PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – The University of Rochester women's tennis team blanked SUNY Geneseo in its final regular season matchup of the year, winning 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the Peter Lyman Tennis Center.
Rochester's victory moves the Yellowjackets record to 11-6 on the year, earning UR's most wins in a season since they posted a 13-7 record back in 2016-17. The Yellowjackets will next turn their attention to the UAA Championships to be played next Thursday through Saturday down in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
On Friday, the shutout started with Rochester earning the doubles point, combining to win all three matches by 6-3 scores or better.
Josephine Libby and
Sanjana Karnam blanked their opponents at first doubles, 6-0, with
Jasmin Toor and
Lilly Caldwell clinching the doubles point with a 6-1 win at third doubles. Closing out the sweep, Rochester's
Neha Dania and
Maya Bravo won 6-3 at second doubles.
With the home match being played outdoors for the first time this season, all six singles matches were on court at the same time.
The fifth singles match between Caldwell and Joann Catalano finished first, with Caldwell winning 6-0, 6-1. At three, Toor topped Talia Wutz by the same score and Rochester was up 3-0 in the team score.
Libby captured the match-clinching point at first singles, winning 6-4, 6-0 over Natalie Pipes.
With the match secured, the Yellowjackets continued rolling along with Dania winning 6-1, 6-2 over Rachel Molloy at fourth singles.
Katie Yang topped Samantha Rava 6-1, 6-3 at second singles, and
Sahithi Mathukumilli made it 7-0 Rochester with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Elena DeRiso in the six slot.
