VERONA, NY – For the fourth time this season, the University of Rochester golf team shot a combined team scoring under par, racing out to an early lead following the opening round of the 2025 Liberty League Championships at the Turning Stone Resort Shenandoah Golf Course on Friday afternoon.
The Yellowjackets carded a team score of 282 on the day, equaling a 6-under total, ranking as the second best single-round score to par in Rochester golf history.
UR's score has the Yellowjackets in the lead by nine strokes after day one of the 54-hole event that will end with the winning team receiving the Liberty League's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Rensselaer and NYU sit tied for second after day one with team scores of 291, while fourth place Skidmore is the only other team sub-300, shooting a 294 on Friday. St. Lawrence (302), Hobart (303) and Clarkson (309) round out the 7-team field at the event.
Seven players finished under par overall on day one, with UR's
Luke Evans carding a team-best 4-under par round of 68 over his opening 18 holes. He leads the field by two strokes after the first round and was nearly blemish-free on his scorecard, firing five birdies and one bogey on the day.
UR had two other scorers under par, as
Arjun Aujla and
Alvin Su both rank tied for fourth in the field after opening with 1-under par 71's. Aujla's scorecard featured four birdies and an eagle, while Ren was steady with two birdies, one bogey and 15 pars.
Rochester's fourth counting golfer was first-year
Eddie Ren who ended the day at even par. In his round of 72, Ren recovered nicely after opening back-to-back bogey's, finishing his round with two birdies in his final three holes to reach level par. Ren sits tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard.
Shibo Wang was the fifth Yellowjacket golfer in the lineup, shooting a 3-over par round of 75 on Friday. He is tied for 20th in the field.
Tee times for round two at the par-72, 7,013-yard Shenandoah Course begin at noon on Saturday, with Rochester in the later wave of teams, starting at 12:50 pm.
