University of Rochester men's squash seniors Jacob Koeppel,
Tom Whiteley and
Omar Zakaria received College Squash Association (CSA) 2024-25 Men's Scholar-Athlete honors, as announced by the CSA on Friday.
Â
CSA Scholar-Athlete Honors are granted to varsity juniors or seniors who are at least a two-time varsity letterwinner at the school they're currently attending, have a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher, have been enrolled at their present school for at least one full-year prior to the present term, and played a top-10 ladder position for the majority of scheduled CSA-sanctioned matches during the season.
Â
Koeppel, Whiteley and Zakaria all earned the distinction for the second-consecutive year, having been named CSA Scholar-Athletes following the 2023-24 season.
Â
A finance major, Koeppel played in the five, six and seven spots on the ladder this season, posting a 9-7 overall record. The senior ended his collegiate career on a two-match win streak and won seven of his last 10 matches.
Â
Whiteley, a two-year team captain and mechanical engineering major, played all but two of his matches at the four spot this season, accumulating a 9-10 record, 2-0 at the three spot on the ladder, and 7-10 at No. 3. Whiteley wraps up his career having won six of his last 10 matches, and with 24 collegiate wins to his name.
Â
Also, a two-year team captain, Zakaria went 12-9 for Rochester this season, including an 11-7 record at the two spot. A computer and electrical engineering major, Zakaria graduates with a 43-31 career record and ended the 2024-25 season on a three-match win streak, and having won seven of 10.
Â
The CSA places a high value on the Scholar Athlete Award as it embodies the dual commitment that makes college squash so special. Balancing intense training, team travel, and match play with the demands of rigorous coursework is no small task. Honoring those who manage both with distinction is one of the most meaningful moments of our season.
