UR Sweeps Oneonta on Senior Day

The University of Rochester men's tennis team didn't drop a single set en route to a 7-0 win over the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon inside the Goergen Athletic Center.

Senior Krish Vennam was one of three double-winners on the day for UR, along with first-years Andy Liu and Alan Wang. Vennam and Ahaan Malhotra combined to earn the 'Jackets' first doubles win, 6-1, over Oneonta's Jaden Ritterman and Peter Pitaleff at No. 2 doubles, and later on Vennam added a singles' win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1, over the Red Dragons' Chris Chippari.

Wang and Surya Rajamani clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles over William Schmid and Chippari, while Liu and Liam Rieger finished off the doubles sweep with a 7-5 victory at No. 3 doubles over Seth Cheung and Ryan Geller.

The Yellowjackets would keep things rolling in singles play, where Kavin Shukla made quick work of Geller at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2, to earn UR's first singles point.

Up 2-0, Liu notched his second win of the afternoon, 6-1, 6-0, over Ritterman at No. 3 singles to put UR up 3-0, setting up Wang with the clincher.

Wang clinched Rochester's win, its second in the past three matches, with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Schmid at No. 2 singles, before Vennam made it 5-0 with his win at No. 1 singles.

Rochester then wrapped up the match with two more wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, as Ethan Samora topped Pitaleff, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles, while Joseph Xia rolled past Braden Greenberg at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

With the win, the Yellowjackets move to 7-5 on the year, while Oneonta drops to 6-8.

Rochester will wrap up the weekend with its penultimate home contest of the year, hosting Oswego State on Sunday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m. inside the Goergen Athletic Center.
