UR’s Cruser is Co-POY, Five Named All-Liberty League

Following the 2025 season, the University of Rochester baseball team picked up seven All-Liberty League honors, spread across five individuals, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Senior Colby Cruser was named Co-Player of the Year in the Liberty League and also secured First Team honors as a relief pitcher, while being named Second Team designated hitter in the conference.
 
Joining Cruser on the First Team in 2025 were senior starting pitcher Sammy Rosenfield, graduate student second baseman Jackson Reed and graduate student outfielder Josh Leadem. In addition, senior Alexander Gonzalo, was voted to the All-Conference Second Team at third base.
 
Cruser becomes the fifth player in team history to be named Player of the Year within the Liberty League, while the Yellowjackets six All-League recipients boost Rochester's total to 170 all-time since the conference began back in the mid-1990's.
 
Rochester this season finished with a 16-17 overall record and was 10-10 in Liberty League play, qualifying for the conference crossover series for the fourth straight season.
 
Colby CruserCo-Player of the Year/1st Team/2nd Team:
Colby Cruser (SR, P/DH, Littleton, CO/Chatfield) – 6th All-League honor (2022 2nd Team, 2023 HM, 2024 2nd Team); Cruser did a magnificent job both at the plate and on the mound for the Yellowjackets in his final season. The senior DH for Rochester hit .385 (40-104) in 29 games on offense, adding 9 doubles, 3 home runs, 19 RBI and 19 runs scored. He combined to slug .558 and reach base at a .435 clip, drawing 8 walks and 2 HBP while striking out just 7 times. On the mound, the lefty relief pitcher went 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA across 10 appearances and 20.0 innings. He struck out 27 batters and walked only 6 while surrendering just 12 hits and 6 runs on the season. He had a miniscule WHIP (0.90) and batting average against (.171), both of which would lead the conference had he league minimum innings. Cruser also finished sixth in the conference in batting average and saw nine of his ten pitching appearances be in league games. His best effort on the mound came in 4.1 shutout innings with five strikeouts against Union, while at the plate, Cruser combined for 16 hits across six games against Clarkson and Ithaca.
 
Sammy Rosenfield1st Team:
Sammy Rosenfield (SR, P, North Grafton, MA/Phillips Academy) – 1st All-League honor; Rosenfield was Rochester's top starter in 2025, finishing with a team high 46.2 innings across 10 appearances (9 starts). The senior had a 3.47 ERA and 2-2 record, striking out 55 batters and allowing just 24 walks and 18 earned runs. Held opponents to 38 hits and a .232 batting average against overall. Rosenfield ranked top-10 in the league in ERA, strikeouts, fewest runs allowed and batting average against. On the year, some of his top efforts on the mound were a 6-inning, 1-hit, 10-strikeout performance against Hobart, and a 5-inning, 1-run, 8-strikeout outing versus St. Lawrence. The right-hander also struck out seven batters against RIT and Ithaca, both of which turned out to be Yellowjacket victories.
 
Jackson ReedJackson Reed (GR, IF, Corte Madera, CA/Redwood) – 3rd All-League honor (2022 2nd Team, 2023 1st Team); Reed appeared in 27 games as a graduate student, finishing off his career by hitting .384 (48-125) with 28 runs scored, 5 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs and 13 RBI, primarily batting leadoff. The infielder added 7 walks and 1 HBP and only struck out 4 times, ranking 5th in Division III as the toughest hitter to strike out. His on-base percentage was .421 and he slugged .504 while going 7-for-9 in stolen base attempts. Reed reached base safely in all 27 games he played in 2025 and had a season-long hitting streak of 20 games, the longest by a UR hitter since 2004. His batting average number ranked him seventh in the Liberty League and cracked into the NCAA Division III national rankings.
 
Josh LeademJosh Leadem (GR, OF, Barrington, RI/Barrington) – 5th All-League honor (2021 2nd Team, 2022 HM, 2023 2nd Team, 2024 2nd Team); Finally broke through on the conference First Team with a terrific graduate season at Rochester. Led the Yellowjackets with a .392 average in 2025, going 49-for-125 at the plate with 4 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs, 24 RBI and a team-best 35 runs scored. Added 28 steals and had 17 walks and 10 HBP, leading to a .484 on-base percentage. Started all 33 games for Rochester and played stellar center field, while also seeing four appearances on the mound, finishing with a pair of saves and 4.50 ERA across 4.0 innings. Leadem ranked in the top-10 in the Liberty League in average, on-base percentage, sacrifice flies and stolen bases. Smacked a walk-off home run to defeat Allegheny on March 15 and ended the season on a nine-game hit streak, with seven of those contests featuring multiple hits.
 
Alexander Gonzalo2nd Team:
Alexander Gonzalo (SR, IF, Park Ridge, IL/Maine South) – 1st All-League honor; Gonzalo was a consistent producer in the middle of the Yellowjacket lineup during the year, ending 2025 with a .347 average (42-for-121) with 31 runs, 9 doubles and team high's in home runs (5) and RBI (35). Slugged .545 for the season and added 18 walks and 9 HBP for a .451 on-base percentage. Was a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen base attempts and was one of three Yellowjackets to appear in and start all 33 games played. Paced Rochester with eight multi-RBI games, including six games with three or more. Smacked two home runs in a game twice, coming at Scranton on March 11 and against St. Lawrence in the final game of the regular season, helping UR clinch a spot in the Liberty League Crossover Series. Ranked eighth in the conference in RBI and tied for first with five sacrifice flies.
