LOUISVILLE, KY – Three members of the University of Rochester softball team, senior
Bailey Nicholoff, junior
Molly Broccolo and sophomore
Riley Laygo, were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region III Team, as announced by the NFCA on Friday.
Broccolo earned First-Team All-Region III honors, Laygo was named to the All-Region III Second-Team and Nicholoff received Third-Team All-Region III honors as a catcher.
Broccolo nets her third-straight First-Team All-Region honor, having led the Yellowjackets in the circle for the third-straight season en route to her third-consecutive First-Team All-Liberty League honor. In 26 appearances and 22 starts, the junior right-hander went 14-6 with a 2.03 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, allowing just 35 earned runs over 120.2 innings pitched, holding opponents to a .258 opponent batting average. Broccolo ranked third in Region III in games started, fifth in ERA, walks allowed per seven innings and wins, seventh in strikeout-to-walk ratio and 10th in innings pitched.
In the circle, Broccolo helped shut out five Region III opponents in Buffalo St., Clarkson, Oswego St., RIT and St. John Fisher, pitching seven total shutouts, six complete games and a save during the 2025 campaign. Statistically, the Webster, NY native's 1.04 BB/7 ranks eighth in a single season in program history, while the junior's 14 wins are tied for ninth.
A First-Team All-Liberty League selection, Laygo received Second-Team All-Region III accolades, her second-straight season with an All-Region honor. The sophomore put together another superb season at the plate, slashing .392/.437/.784 with 49 hits, 17 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 39 runs scored, and 35 RBI, totaling 98 bases while drawing nine walks and two hit-by-pitches and stealing 13 bases.
In Region III, Laygo ranked second in doubles, sixth in home runs, ninth in slugging percentage and top-15 in runs scored and RBI. Statistically, Laygo also tied for the third-most doubles in a single season in program history, as well as the sixth-best slugging, tied for the sixth-most home runs, and tallied the eighth-most total bases. Laygo's 17-game hitting streak midway through the year came against mostly Region III competition, as did six of her 14 multi-hit games, including a three-homer performance in a doubleheader vs. RPI on April 18.
After earning First-Team All-Liberty League honors as an outfielder, Nicholoff was selected to the NFCA All-Region III Team as a catcher, having made 19 starts in the outfield and 16 behind the plate. Nicholoff was not only versatile defensively, but was also one of UR's top hitters at the plate, quickly taking over the leadoff spot and batting .382 (39-for-102) in 36 games played and 35 starts this season. The senior nets her second career All-Region selection after tallying 11 doubles, a triple, nine home runs, 33 runs scored and 22 RBI, while drawing 16 walks, four hit-by-pitches and stealing eight bases.
The Chicago, IL native ranked top 10 in Region III in both home runs and slugging, and recorded the ninth-highest slugging (.775) and 10th-highest on-base percentage (.484) in a single season in program history. Nicholoff also graduates with her name etched all across the record book, as UR's all-time leader in sacrifice flies, and tied for second in both doubles and run scored, third in stole bases, fourth in RBI, tied for fourth in home runs, fifth in hit-by-pitches, sixth in total bases and ninth in games played.
NFCA All-Region honors student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with selection to one of three teams. NFCA member head coaches nominate and then vote for the winners in their respective regions.
All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 28 online and on-site at the NCAA Division III Finals banquet in Bloomington, Ill.
