ITHACA, NY – Select individuals from the University of Rochester women's rowing team got their first action of the 2025-26 season underway on Sunday, competing at the Ithaca College Cayuga Sprints competition along the Cayuga Inlet.
The Yellowjackets turned in some nice results during the sculling events, with five entries overall competing.
Rochester's top boat on the day was the double of seniors
Kennedy Leininger and
Sophie Weissman. The duo was third among seven boats in the pair competition and ended the competition sixth overall with a time of 16:36.7.
Right behind that group was UR's entry of
Quinn Seawright and
Sophia Fietkiewicz who finished in seventh place overall. The two first-year rowers were fourth among the pair entries, posting an overall time of 16:38.0.
The Yellowjackets third boat in the overall standings was the lone pair entry, made up of seniors
Ava Prevey-Sullivan and
Jinx Allison. Those two finished in a time of 16:41.1, ranking ninth overall and second among the six pair entries in the competition.
Ranking 18th in the field of 25 total boats was a third URochester double entry of senior
Elizabeth Carleton and sophomore
Sophie Swartz. Carleton and Swartz were sixth among the doubles, tallying a time of 17:52.8.
Rounding out the 'Jacket racers on the day was first-year
Katelyn Wilmarth who rowed as a single and finished with a time of 17:58.3, good for second in her boat class and 19th place overall on the day.
Up next, Rochester will compete in its first head race of the season, the Head of the Genesee, on its home course along the Genesee River, on October 11.
