2025 UR Athletics Fall Season Wrap-Up

 
Men's Cross Country
Team Accomplishments
  • The Yellowjackets finished 3rd of 27 teams at the NCAA Division III Niagara Regional at Genesee Valley Park.
  • URochester finished 7th at the UAA Championships in Edwardsville, IL.
  • The squad finished 3rd of 24 teams at the Yellowjacket Invitational in September.
  • The Yellowjackets earned a team runner-up finish at the Kara Hall Memorial Invite at Fredonia.
 
Individual Accomplishments
  • Three individuals qualified to compete at the NCAA National Championships in Spartanburg, SC - James Catania '25, Liam Sakakeeny '28, and Joe Berry '28. This was the first time in men's program history that three individual runners qualified to the NCAA Championships.
  • Four URochester men earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors based on their finishes at the NCAA Niagara Regional - Catania, Sakakeeny, Berry, and Zach Terrano '28.
  • UAA Fall All-Academic Team – Jacob Bernd '28, Catania, Will Eskenas '27, Brendan McCollum '26, Sakakeeny and Gus Smith '27
 
Women's Cross Country
Team Accomplishments
  • The URochester women finished 7th of 27 teams at the NCAA Division III Niagara Regional at Genesee Valley Park.
  • The Yellowjackets were 8th as a team at the UAA Championships in Edwardsville, IL.
  • URochester won the team title at the Kara Hall Memorial Invite at Fredonia for the second consecutive season.
  • The squad finished 3rd of 24 teams at the Yellowjacket Invitational in September, and 7th of 25 teams at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble in mid-October.
 
Individual Accomplishments
  • Team captains Alyssa Horng '26 and Riley Joseph '26 both earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors, based on their top-35 individual finishes at the NCAA Niagara Regional.
  • Joseph was also the team's top finisher at the UAA Championships (36th, 22:42), the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble (20th, 23:07) and the Yellowjacket Invitational (12th, 22:49).
  • Horng was URochester's top runner at NCAA Regionals (33rd, 23:01) and was the individual champion at Fredonia (23:15).
  • UAA Fall All-Academic Team – Talia Christopher '28, Emily Dill '27, Isabella Doty '26, Horng, Joseph, Maria Khalifeh '28, Julia Lantner '26, Adriana Ochoa '28, and Ariane Yedidia '28
 
Field Hockey (13-7, 4-3 Liberty League)
Team Accomplishments
  • Fifth place in the Liberty League regular season – 13th consecutive year qualifying for the Liberty League Tournament.
  • Placed two seniors on the NFHCA Division III Senior Team, one of 15 schools to place multiple seniors.
  • Played nine overtime games, winning five of them, three by shootout. All seven losses were by a single goal.
  • One of the top defenses in Division III with a goals against average of 0.95 and save percentage of .873, best in the Liberty League conference.

Football (5-5, 2-5 Liberty League)
Team Accomplishments
  • Unbeaten in non-conference play for the second straight year, started 3-0.
  • Played clean games, ending 7th in Division III in fewest penalties committed this season.
  • Had 6th-best single-season yards per carry average at 4.70.
  • Eight weekly award winners from the Liberty League.
  • Allowed just nine sacks in ten games, third fewest in a single-season.

Golf
Team Highlights
  • Finished tied for second at UAA Match Play Championship, beating NYU and tying #9 Carnegie Mellon.
  • Won the Northeast Elite Invitational, shooting a two-day total of 577 (9-over par), rallying on the back nine holes for the win.
  • Finished runner-up at Tartan Invitational, defeating nine nationally ranked teams.
  • Ranked #1 in the region and #12 nationally in Division III after the fall season.
 
Individual Highlights
  • Alvin Su '28 finished 35th individually at the NCAA Preview, shooting 73-77-70
  • Su won The Northeast Elite Invitational, shooting 67-66 for a total of 9-under par, with his 66 tying the program record for low 18-hole round.
  • Eddie Ren '28 finished third at the Tartan Invitational, shooting 70-77-72 for 3-over par total on the brutally difficult layout.
 
Women's Rowing
  • Two URochester boats finished in the top-7 at the Ithaca Cayuga Sprints.
  • The Yellowjackets had four top-3 results at the Head of the Genesee, with the varsity 4+ boat ending in second place.
  • Varsity 4+ boat placed in the top half of the field at the historic Head of the Charles Regatta.
  • Katelyn Wilmarth '29 and Sophia Fietkiewicz '29 were URochester's top boat at the Head of the Fish, ending fifth in the doubles event.

Men's Soccer (9-5-4, 3-3-1 UAA)
Team Accomplishments
  • Finished fourth in the UAA with wins over Carnegie Mellon, NYU and WashU.
  • Upset No. 3 WashU with a 3-2 comeback victory, scoring twice in the second half to topple the Bears in front of a packed Fauver Stadium.
  • Did not lose in the month of September, going 6-0-2 as part of an 11-game unbeaten streak from Sept. 3 through Oct. 11.
  • Earned the program's 24th-straight United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award.

Women's Soccer (9-4-6, 2-3-2 UAA)
Team Accomplishments 
  • Finished 20th nationally and first in the region in the NCAA's final Division III Women's Soccer NPI Ratings.
  • Ranked 19th in the final United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division Top-25 Coaches Poll and first in the final regional rankings.
  • Earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year and defeated University of Hartford, 2-0, to advance to the Round of 32 for the third-straight season.
  • Played the fifth-toughest schedule in NCAA Division III, facing a program record 11 ranked opponents.
  • Received the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award for the 23rd-consecutive year with a Team GPA of 3.74.
 
Individual Accomplishments 
  • Eileen Harvey '27 named United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Fourth Team All-American (Third-consecutive All-America honors for the program in the last three years).

Men's Tennis
  • Kavin Shukla '26 was a semifinalist in the A-Flight singles, upsetting the #2 seed in the second round at the St. Lawrence Fall Classic. In B-Flight doubles, Ethan Samora '27 and Aiden Swartz '29 won two rounds to reach the semifinals.   
  • At the ITA Northeast Regional Championship, Rahul Ravi '26 upset a seeded player from NYU in the opening round in straight sets. Andy Liu '28 also upset a seeded player in the first round with a straight-set win over Skidmore.   
  • In doubles action, Josh Chu '27 and Ravi won three matches at the ITA Northeast Regional to reach the B Flight Doubles final.
  • Tony Xu '29 won two rounds to reach the B-Flight singles semifinals at the ITA Northeast Regional.
 
Women's Tennis
  • Esther Wang '29 captured the D-Flight singles title and Hailey Kornbluth '29 won three rounds to reach the C-Flight singles final at the William Smith Mary Hosking Invitational.
  • Natalie Debowski '29 and Kornbluth finished as B-Flight doubles finalists, winning their first three matches at William Smith.
  • Kornbluth won four rounds to finish as a B-Flight singles finalist at the ITA Northeast Regional. While in B-Flight doubles, Kornbluth and Debowski won two rounds to reach the semifinals.  
  • Neha Dania '26 won two rounds in the B-Flight singles at the ITA Northeast Regional to finish as a semifinalist.
 
 
Volleyball (4-23, 0-7 UAA)
Team Accomplishments
  • Rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to reverse sweep SUNY Morrisville, 3-2.
  • Pushed Case Western Reserve to five sets on their home court at UAA Round Robin #2.
  • Took a set off #12 Emory University at UAA Round Robin #3.
  • Season-high team hitting percentage of .238 vs Keuka College.
 
Individual Accomplishments

  • UR Volleyball Invitational All-Tournament Team – Bergeron

2025-26 UR Athletics Winter Season Mid-Season Update
 

Men's Basketball (7-4, 0-0 UAA)
Team Accomplishments
  • Won UR Chuck Resler Tournament with wins over Buffalo State and Utica.
  • Went 2-0 at the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout for the seventh time in nine all-time appearances at the event.
  • Scored over 100 points in wins against Utica and Ithaca.
  • Currently ranked fifth in Division III in 3-point defense (25.2%).

Women's Basketball (7-4, 0-0 UAA)
Team Accomplishments
  • Won five straight games from Nov. 21 to Dec. 5.
  • Went 2-0 at the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout, defeating St. John Fisher and Nazareth.
  • Started 2026 with a pair of double-digit wins over Brockport and RIT.
  • Ranked top-30 in Division III in assist/turnover ratio (1.11) and assists per game (16.2).
  • UR Chuck Resler All-Tournament Team – Grace Corelli '28
  • Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout All-Tournament Team – Corelli (MVP), Bridget Miller '26
 
Squash (2-4, 0-0 Liberty League)
  • Posted wins over Denison and Chatham.
  • Took multiple match points against #18 Western and #15 Navy.
  • Five individuals earned weekly honors from the Liberty League.
  • Dhirren Rajarathinam '27 had a solid first semester, going 5-1 at the #2 position, while Thomas Valderrama '28 is 4-2 so far this season.
 
Men's Swimming & Diving (3-3)
  • Ended as team runner-up at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational.
  • Had two UAA Athletes of the Week, Brendan Habert '26 and Max Gjevre '26
  • Max McClung '26 broke two school records, setting the University standard in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly.
  • 19 new all-time top-10 times in the URochester men's swimming & diving record book.
 
Women's Swimming & Diving (7-0)
  • Opened season with two home wins over Division I opponents in Siena and Canisius.
  • Best dual meet start to a season since 2003-04.
  • Finished second of seven teams at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational.
  • Four individuals received UAA Athlete of the Week awards, Ariana Pasquella '26, Julia Sides '27, Kaela Springer '28 and Ally Mackey '29.
  • Springer (1-meter diving) and Pasquella (200 breaststroke) established new school records during the fall.
  • The Yellowjackets added 19 new times to the all-time top-10 list in program history.
 
Men's Indoor Track & Field
  • Started season strong with five wins and six regional performances at the Nazareth Alumni Opener in early December.
  • Reward Mulauzi '27 won the long jump, Austin Lansey '28 won the triple jump, Aadit Jain '26 won the high jump and Jacob Bernd '28 won the 1000 meters for URochester's individual wins.
  • The team of Barack Abdallah '29, Greg Palma '28, Elijah VanHoover '26 and William Stiska '28 finished first in the 4x200 meter relay.
  • Regional qualifiers – Lansey, Jain, 4x200 meter relay, Ethan Beer '27 (shot put), Armaan Butler '27 (shot put), Cody Reeth '26 (pole vault)
 
Women's Indoor Track & Field
  • URochester's women were off and running on the season at the Nazareth Alumni Opener in December, setting one school record while recording five wins and 11 All-Atlantic Region qualifying marks.
  • Lauren Murphy '29 set a school record in the triple jump with an 11.97-meter leap.
  • Individual wins came from Murphy, Aimee Oszer '27 (shot put), Nora Chen '27 (400 meters), Molly FitzGibbons '26 (mile) and Chen, Eva Ciuffetelli '27, Murphy and Jordan Smith '29 (4x400 meter relay)
  • Regional qualifiers – 4x400 meter relay, Chen, Ciuffetelli (400 meters), FitzGibbons, 4x200 meter relay, Murphy (long jump, triple jump), Ashleigh Barrett (long jump), Oszer, Madison Vargas '27 (shot put, weight throw)
