University of Rochester football senior
Kyle Brainard and field hockey senior
Cassidy Romano earned Liberty League weekly honors in their respective sports, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Â
Brainard was named the Liberty League Football Special Teams Performer of the Week, while Romano earned Field Hockey Defensive Performer of the Week honors.
Â
Brainard had a terrific day punting the ball in URochester's loss at Hobart on Saturday, logging five punts for 226 yards (45.2 average). His day included a career-long 79-yard kick, which established a new University record for the longest punt and leads NCAA Division III this season. Brainard also had two of his punts end inside the 20-yard line and added two kickoffs for 123 yards.
Â
Romano logged 60 minutes in both of URochester's wins to close the regular season, helping the Yellowjackets to a pair of shutout victories. The senior defender provided one shot and helped UR's defense hold Oswego to just one corner and zero shots in a 4-0 win on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Then on Saturday, Romano again logged 60 minutes of action, helping the 'Jackets hold William Smith to just five shots (one on goal) in a 3-0 Rochester victory to secure the #4 seed in the conference tournament.
