MAYFIELD, OH – Fifth-ranked Case Western Reserve University showed its skill on the court on Saturday evening, defeating the University of Rochester men's tennis team 7-0 at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club.
To open the match, the host Spartans (8-0) breezed through doubles play, winning all three matches to secure the doubles point. URochester saw the most success in the third doubles match, with
Surya Rajamani and
Liam Rieger falling by a 6-3 score to Rohan Bhat and Anmay Devaraj.
The CWRU nationally-ranked pair of Trey Lambridge and Bryce Ware (#17 nationally) topped
Ethan Samora and
Tony Xu at first doubles, while
Rahul Ravi and
Alan Wang were defeated at second doubles against Jon Totorica and Leon Chen.
In singles, the top three in the Yellowjacket lineup,
Kavin Shukla,
Andy Liu and Ravi all combined to win four games across their matches, but CWRU ultimately took all six points in straight sets.
Shukla fell to regionally-ranked Matthew Plunkett 6-3, 6-1, Liu was dispatched by Santiago Salazar Garza 6-3, 6-1 and Ravi lost in his match by a 6-4, 6-0 score to Ansh Shah.
In the bottom half of the singles lineup, Bhat won over Xu at four 6-1, 6-2, Konrad Kwiatkowski topped Wang 6-0, 6-0 in the five slot and J.T. Bilski earned a 6-1, 6-0 win against
Ethan Samora at sixth singles.
URochester is right back in action on Sunday morning, playing at Oberlin College to complete the two-match weekend.
