The University of Rochester men's tennis team was impressive in its season-opening dual match on Friday evening, dropping a total of just eight games across nine matches in a convincing 7-0 win over Nazareth University at the Goergen Athletic Center.
Rochester (1-0) swept all three doubles matches without dropping a game, winning 6-0 in each.
Ethan Samora and
Tony Xu paired for a win at number one,
Rahul Ravi and
Alan Wang were URochester's second doubles squad and
Surya Rajamani and
Aiden Swartz were the 'Jackets third doubles pair.
The loss drops Nazareth to 0-4 on the season.
Three of those doubles players ended the night winning twice, capturing victories in singles play as well.
After the Yellowjackets securing the doubles team point, Ravi's 6-0, 6-0 win over Noah Britton at second singles put Rochester in front 2-0 on the scoreboard. Xu made it 3-0 'Jackets with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Nathan Bigelow at number three.
The match-clinching point was earned by
Andy Liu at the first singles spot, with him defeating Max Funiciello 6-0, 6-1.
Continuing their strong play, the 'Jackets closed out the match with three more straight set wins from
Joseph Xia, Wang and
Leo Umansky at four, five, and six, respectively.
Xia won over Pierre Ntonga 6-0, 6-2, Wang topped David Tuller 6-2, 6-0 and Umansky picked up the victory against Timmy Taylor, posting a 6-1, 6-0 score.
URochester is right back in action on Saturday afternoon with another local opponent coming to the GAC, this time with RIT taking on the 'Jackets at 2 pm.
