‘Jackets Finish Strong in Victory Over RIT

The University of Rochester closed with five straight singles victories on Saturday, defeating crosstown rival RIT 5-2 in men's tennis action at the Goergen Athletic Center.

URochester's win improves the Yellowjackets to 2-0 on the young season, while RIT (3-1) falls for the first time in four matches during 2025-26.

Rahul Ravi and Alan Wang were both winners in singles and doubles on Saturday, lifting the home Yellowjackets. Wang eventually secured the match-clinching point as well with a win at sixth singles.

To start the match, RIT earned wins at first and third doubles to go ahead 1-0 on the team scoreboard.

Despite the doubles point being decided, Wang and Ravi paired together to give the Yellowjackets some momentum heading into singles, winning 7-5 over the team of Evan Ly and Alec Turcotte.

In singles, RIT's Yu Tanimoto put the Tigers up 2-0 with a straight set win over Kavin Shukla, posting a 6-4, 6-1 score.

That point would the last for RIT, as URochester claimed victories in the rest of the days matches, including three in straight sets to earn the match victory, its 14th straight against the Tigers.

Tony Xu started the 'Jacket comeback with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alexander Sinclair at number four. Andy Liu followed with a 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) victory against Turcotte at the two spot in the order to even the score at 2-2.

The first of two three-set matches then finished next, with Ravi posting a 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-3 win over Ly at third singles, edging the Yellowjackets closer to the match win.

Then Wang clinched the match for UR with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win at number six over Trent Sauer. Joseph Xia finished off the string of 'Jacket wins with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 triumph at number five to reach the final match score of 5-2.

Up next, the Yellowjackets travel to Ohio for a pair of matches next Saturday and Sunday, taking on Case Western Reserve and Oberlin.
