GENEVA/CLINTON, NY – No. 21 University of Rochester men's squash scored a pair of victories in its Saturday matches against Hobart College and No. 22 Hamilton College, topping the Statesmen, 9-0 on Saturday morning at the Smith Squash Center, before holding on late to edge the Continentals, 6-3, in their evening matchup at the Little Squash Center.

With the two wins, the 21st-ranked 'Jackets move to 4-5 on the year, while No. 22 Hamilton drops to 7-8 and the 33rd-ranked Statesmen drop to 0-15.

MATCH ONE: #21 Rochester 9, #33 Hobart 0
The Yellowjackets got their day started with seven sweeps en route to a 9-0 victory over the Statesmen, turning in a dominant effort at the Smith Squash Center.

Kareem Azzam got URochester on the scoreboard first with an 11-1, 11-4, 11-4 win over Hobart's Peter Vorbach at the No. 4 spot, while Sam Knoll earned a four-set win over Billy Gantcher at the No. 9 spot: 7-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-7, to make it 2-0 'Jackets.

Gilberto Aceves Moreno finished off the opening round sweep with a 3-0 victory at the No. 1 spot, topping Adam Le, 11-5, 11-8, 13-11, giving Rochester a 3-0 lead after the first three matches of play.

Up next at the No. 6 spot, Karim Moataz added another sweep to URochester's ledger, making quick work on Mason Graham, 11-4, 11-4, 11-8, to set up Van Inman-Benavente with the clincher.

Inman-Benavente, facing Miles Mackey in the seven slot, clinched the victory for the Yellowjackets, topping Mackey, 11-4, 11-3, 11-5 in yet another UR sweep.

Thomas Valderrama wrapped up another three-win round with a straight-sets win over Javier De La Vega, 11-7, 11-2, 11-2, at the No. 3 spot, before Arjith Mathew got the final round of play started with a four-game win at the No. 5 spot.

Mathew topped Gabriel Garcia, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6, 11-2, bouncing back from a second-set defeat, one of just two sets Rochester dropped against the Statesmen.

Preston Wu then picked up the 'Jackets' penultimate victory of the match with an 11-4, 11-3, 11-4 sweep of Jayden Saldana at the No. 8 spot, before Dhirren Rajarathinam wrapped up the shutout with an 11-2, 11-8, 11-3 win over Caio Pavia at the No. 2 spot.

MATCH TWO: #21 Rochester 6, #22 Hamilton 3
Despite an early deficit after William Gianopulos won the first point of the match with an 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 win over Knoll at the No. 9 spot, the Yellowjackets would win the next three points, taking a 3-1 lead.

Aceves Moreno earned Rochester's first point with a sweep of Hamilton's Jacob Shulman at the No. 1 spot, 11-2, 11-2, 11-1, and Azzam finished off the opening round with an 11-7, 11-6, 11-7 victory at the fourth slot to give the 'Jackets a 2-1 lead.

Valderrama quickly made it 3-1 to start the second round of play, topping the Continentals' Tobey Suratt, 11-4, 11-5, 11-4, at the No. 3 spot, but Hamilton would pull back within a point with a 13-11, 11-8, 11-9 win at the No. 6 spot from Lucas Walden over Karim Moataz.

Up 3-2, Rajarathinam would put Rochester back up a pair with an 11-5, 11-3, 11-4 win over Atreyus Bhavsar at the No. 2 spot, and the Yellowjackets headed into the final three matches needing just a point to clinch the win.

However, the Continentals would make things interesting, and again pull within a point, as Cooper Jessop edged Inman-Benavente in five sets, 11-7, 11-5, 4-11, 9-11, 11-6, at the No. 7 spot. Inman-Benavente rallied from down 2-0, but Jessop pulled away in the fifth set to clinch the win.

Now up by just one, Rochester needed a win from either Mathew at No. 5 or Wu at No. 8. Mathew took the first two games against Jacob Li, but Li rallied back for the next two to tie the match at 2-2.

While at the No. 8 spot, Carlo Caffuzzi took the first game, 17-15, but Wu quickly tied things up with an 11-9 game-two win, and then came from behind to take game three, 11-8 as well.

With things coming down to the wire, Mathew and Li went back-and-forth in the fifth game before the Yellowjacket first-year finished things off, clinching the win for URochester with an 11-9 victory in the fifth game to take the match, 3-2.

Wu then took his match at the No. 8 spot as well, winning the fourth game, 11-6, to give Rochester its second win of the day, this one by the final score of 6-3 over No. 22 Hamilton.

Rochester will next compete at the 2026 Liberty League Men's Squash Championships, hosted by St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, beginning on Friday, Feb. 14.
