URochester Defeats RIT for Second Straight Win

Playing for the second straight day, the University of Rochester women's tennis team took down another local rival, defeating RIT 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Goergen Athletic Center.

The opening weekend of the dual match season proved a success for the Yellowjackets (2-0), as URochester ended up just losing one point in the two matches after defeating Nazareth 7-0 on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, Jasmin Toor finished as the lone double-winner, while first-year Natalie Debowski earned the match-clinching victory at number five singles.

In doubles, UR jumped out to the early advantage with a 6-0 win from the team of Lauren Kallas and Neha Dania at the number three spot. Shortly after, the Yellowjackets secured the doubles team point when Sanjana Karnam and Toor were 6-1 winners at number two.

RIT took the final doubles match in a tight battle, as Emily Greb and Kira Kronenberg edged Lilly Caldwell and Katie Yang by a 7-6 (7-3) score.

As play shifted to singles, Toor earned the 'Jackets first point with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory at number four versus Anika Galkiewicz.

Hailey Kornbluth made it 3-0 URochester with a 6-0, 6-2, straight set win, at number three against Melanie Saborio before Yang was defeated by Kronenberg 6-, 6-3, at the two spot, for RIT's lone point of the day.

Debowski then took the court at number five against Shayna Agarwal and earned a 6-2, 6-1, clinching the overall match in favor of the Yellowjackets.

Concluding the match, Esther Wang defeated Amulya Settyvari 6-4 at number six, while Caldwell and Greb were locked in a marathon match at number one. Caldwell emerged victorious in three sets, winning 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) and 12-10.

Up next, URochester hits the road for the first time this season, playing next weekend at Case Western Reserve and Oberlin, next Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
