MEADVILLE, PA – Host Allegheny College won five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over the University of Rochester men's tennis team on Saturday afternoon at the David V. Wise Center.
The loss drops URochester to 4-7 in dual matches during the 2026 season, while the Gators improve their record to .500, sitting at 7-7 overall.
Sophomore
Alan Wang picked up the lone Yellowjacket point in the match, winning in three sets over David Rodriguez at third singles. Wang won a close opening set 7-6 (7-4) before Rodriguez leveled things up with a 6-4 second set win. In the deciding third-set tiebreaker, Wang emerged victorious, winning 10-6 for the UR point.
To open the match, the host Gators posted a sweep in doubles, winning all three matches for the early 1-0 team lead. Allegheny won 6-1 at first doubles, 6-4 at second doubles and 6-2 at third doubles.
Moving to singles, Allegheny's Javier Bejarano was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over
Aiden Swartz at number four to put the Gators up 2-0 on the scoreboard.
After Adam Memiji topped
Andy Liu 6-2, 6-1 at the top spot in the order to pull the Gators one point closer to victory, the number two match ended up being the clincher for Allegheny.
In that match, Levente Mihaly topped
Rahul Ravi 7-5, 6-3 to make the score 4-0, securing the Gators team win overall.
Wang followed with his win at number three, avoiding the shutout for the Yellowjackets.
Wrapping up the match, the Gators picked up two more straight set wins at five and six. Zidaan Hassan defeated
Tony Xu 6-1, 6-2 at number five, while Benedek Kaibas earned a 6-3, 7-5 win against
Josh Chu in the six slot.
URochester returns home for its next match, taking place next Saturday, March 28 at the Goergen Athletic Center against NYU. That contest will serve as Senior Day for the Yellowjackets.
