Andy Liu earned a win at No. 1 singles, but the University of Rochester men's tennis team fell to the 22nd-ranked New York University Violets, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Goergen Athletic Center.

Prior to the match against the Violets, URochester honored its three-member senior class:
Surya Rajamani,
Rahul Ravi and
Kavin Shukla. But the Violets would jump in front early, winning the doubles point with a sweep of all three doubles matches.

Boris Slesarev and Louis Frowein got NYU started with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles over
Josh Chu and Rajamani, while Bryan Hui and Niklas von Hellens topped Liu and
Alan Wang at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, to secure the doubles point.

NYU's Jeh-Lei Fan and Shido Ito then wrapped up the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Ravi and Shuka, moving the match into singles play.

The Violets would earn the first two points of singles play at No. 2 and 3 singles, before Liu picked up Rochester's lone win with a victory at No. 1. Forwein got singles play started with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Shukla, while Bryan Hui topped Ravi at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2.

At No. 1 singles, Liu earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over von Hellens to pull Rochester within two, 3-1, but NYU would clinch at No. 4 singles, with a 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 win from Ito over Wang.

Slesarev then put NYU up 5-1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles before Fan closed things out at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-7 (8-10), 10-6 win over
Ethan Samora.

With the win, No. 22 NYU moves to 6-1 on the year, while the 'Jackets drop to 4-8 with the loss.

The Yellowjackets will wrap up the weekend with a matchup against No. 33 RPI on Sunday, March 29, at 2:00 p.m. inside the Goergen Athletic Center.
