‘Jackets Open Spring Trip with 6-1 Win vs. West Liberty

HILTON HEAD, SC – The University of Rochester women's tennis team scored a 6-1 win over the West Liberty University Hilltoppers to open their spring slate on Saturday morning at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort.

Three 'Jackets, Hailey Kornbluth, Jasmin Toor and Esther Wang, were double winners for URochester, as the 'Jackets dropped just two matches against the Hilltoppers, one in doubles play and another in singles action.

Toor and Lauren Kallas got Rochester started with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Ana Sanchez and Courtney Curnutte, while Kornbluth and Wang clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles against Gabrielle Pasco and Elle Monaco.

West Liberty's Maria Martirosyan and Sanchita Dabas would take the third doubles match, 6-3, over Lilly Caldwell and Katie Yang at No. 1 doubles, but the Yellowjackets would keep things rolling into singles play and pick up early wins at No. 3 and 4.

Toor made quick work of Curnutte at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1, to put Rochester up 2-0, while Kornbluth made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3, win over Dabas at No. 3 singles.

Sanchez then earned the lone point of the match for West Liberty with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Caldwell at No. 2 singles, but the 'Jackets bounced back to make it 4-1 and clinch the match with Natalie Debowski's 6-0, 6-2 win over Pasco at No. 5 singles.

Yang then earned a 6-2, 5-7, 11-9 win over Martirosyan at No. 1 singles to make it 5-1, before Wang wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Monaco at No. 6 singles.

With the win, the Yellowjackets move to 4-4 on the year, while West Liberty falls to 1-3.

Rochester is back in action this afternoon with a matchup against Hardin-Simmons in Hilton Head, SC, slated for 2:00 p.m.
