URochester Earns Four Singles Wins in 4-3 Win vs. Lake Forest

HILTON HEAD, SC – Despite dropping all three doubles matches, the University of Rochester men's tennis team bounced back to top the Lake Forest College Foresters, 4-3, on Sunday morning to open their spring trip at the Hilton Head High School.

Lake Forest swept all three doubles matches, securing the doubles point with Rodrigo Cunha and Felipe Moraes' 6-2 victory over Ethan Samora and Aiden Swartz at No. 1 doubles.

Bernardo Aguiar and George Ciuca got things started for the Foresters with a 6-3 win over Surya Rajamani and Liam Reiger at No. 2 doubles, while Joao Espindola and Tim Pasea finished off the sweep with a 6-4 win over Leo Umansky and Joseph Xia at No. 3 doubles.

However, the Yellowjackets would bounce back in singles play, winning four of the first five singles matches to claim the victory. Swartz got Rochester started at No. 2 singles, topping Aguiar 6-1, 6-2.

Xu then put Rochester in front, 2-1, with a 6-4, 6-4, win over Ciuca at No. 3 singles, but the Foresters would tie things up with a win at No. 1 singles, as Moraes topped Liu, 7-5, 4-6, 10-5.

With the match coming down to the final three singles matches, Alan Wang put the 'Jackets back up by a point, 3-2, and in position to clinch with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Cunha at No. 4 singles, before Samora came up with the clincher at No. 5 singles.

Samora defeated Zeke Bisharat, 6-4, 6-2, to clinch the comeback victory for the Yellowjackets, while Espindola and Xia wrapped up the match at No. 6 singles, with Espindola prevailing, 6-0, 2-6, 10-6, to pull the Foresters within one on the final tally.

The win moves Rochester to 4-4 on the year, while Lake Forest drops to 4-4 with the loss.

It's a quick turnaround for the 'Jackets as URochester next plays Randolph College at 2:30 p.m. in Hilton Head, SC.
