Foresters Edge ‘Jackets in Spring Trip Finale

HILTON HEAD, SC – The University of Rochester women's tennis team fell just short by the final score of 4-3 against the Lake Forest College Foresters in the final match of their spring break trip on Sunday morning at the Hilton Head High School.

Despite an early win at No. 2 doubles, the Foresters would take the doubles point, winning the next two matches. Jasmin Toor and Lauren Kallas got things started with a 6-2 win over Anya Mookencherry and Avelynn Wen at No. 2 doubles, but Sofia Strupovets and Lilli Dockal topped Lilly Caldwell and Katie Yang at No. 1 doubles, 7-5.

Then, Anika Kinnear and Olivia Pandazi earned another 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles against Esther Wang and Hailey Kornbluth to secure the doubles point.

Leading 1-0, Lake Forest quickly made it 2-0 with Strupovets' 6-0, 6-1 win over Yang at No. 1 singles, and then 3-0 on Mookencherry's 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Caldwell.

The Foresters then clinched the victory on Dockal's 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) win over Kornbluth at No. 2 singles, but the Yellowjackets would battle back to make the final score 4-3, winning the final three singles matches.

Kallas put Rochester on the board with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Pandazi at No. 6 singles, while Toor earned double-winner status with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-2 win at No. 4 singles over Wen.

Wang and Kinnear then wrapped up the match at No. 5 singles, with Wang prevailing in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 10-4, to pull URochester within one on the final scoreboard.

With the win, Lake Forest moves to 11-2 on the year, while the Yellowjackets fall to 5-5.

The Yellowjackets will be back in action on Saturday, March 21, when they make the trip to Meadville, PA, for a matchup against Allegheny at 11:00 a.m.
