HILTON HEAD, SC – The University of Rochester men's tennis team came up just short against the Shenandoah University Hornets by the final score of 4-3, falling in the final match of their spring break trip on Monday evening.
With wins at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles, Shenandoah would take the doubles point and go up 1-0 on the Yellowjackets.
Dominick Suwak and Aryanth Chintharlapalli topped
Surya Rajamani and
Liam Rieger at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, while Lucas Beasley and Shine Tokas also won 6-2, defeating
Ethan Samora and
Aiden Swartz at No. 2 doubles.
URochester would earn a win at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, as
Andy Liu and
Alan Wang defeated Artem Babaiev and Neal Love, to score some momentum heading into singles play, and Wang would quickly tie the match at 1-all with a 6-1, 6-2, win over Beasley at No. 3 singles.
Shenandoah went back up 2-1 with Babaiev's 6-1, 6-2 win over Xu at No. 4 singles, while Tokas earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Swartz at No. 2 singles to make it 3-1 Hornets.
Rajamani then picked up a 1-6, 7-5, 10-7 win at No. 6 singles over Arkans to pull Rochester within a point, but the Hornets would clinch at No. 1 singles, where Suwak edged Liu in three games, 6-1, 2-6, 10-4.
Samora and Siddharrth Rajagopalan wrapped things up at No. 5 singles, with Samora taking the match, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 12-10, to pull the 'Jackets within a point, 4-3, on the final scoreboard.
With the loss, Rochester drops to 4-6 on the year, while Shenandoah moves to 3-3 with the win.
The Yellowjackets are back in action next Saturday, March 21, when they head to Meadville, PA, for a non-conference matchup at Allegheny College scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
