BUFFALO, NY – University of Rochester women's track & field juniors
Nora Chen and
Eva Ciuffetelli each ran to a first-place finish, competing at the University at Buffalo Alumni Invitational on Friday inside UB Stadium.
Chen bested her own school record in the 400-meter hurdles, breaking the one-minute mark for the first time in her career. Chen topped the 20-runner field with a time of 59.61 seconds, defeating several NCAA Division I competitors with a new PR and school record, and the No. 2 mark on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List.
Chen also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.68 seconds, good for third out of the 24-competing runners in the event, and the top mark among NCAA DIII competitors. Both of Chen's times also hit the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships (AARTFC) qualifying mark.
Ciuffetelli won the 800 meters, clocking in at 2:11.64, never trailing in the opening heat. Ciuffetelli's time was another AARTFC qualifier, bested the 56-runner field and was the second-fastest outdoor, 800 meters the junior has run in her career.
The rest of the Yellowjacket squad will be back in action on Sunday, April 19 when they host the UR Alumni Invitational inside Fauver Stadium, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
