ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – University of Rochester men's tennis fell to the 10th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis Bears, 4-0, in the consolation semifinals of the 2026 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Friday afternoon at Sanlando Park.
With the loss, the Yellowjackets move to Saturday's UAA seventh-place match, where they'll face NYU, while the Bears will play in the fifth-place match with the win.
Colin Scruggs and Spencer Yamamoto got WashU started in doubles play with a 6-2 win over
Surya Rajamani and
Andy Liu at No. 3 doubles. While Colin Fox and Jeremy Sieben, the 8th-ranked doubles pair in NCAA Division III this season, wrapped up the doubles point for the Bears with a 6-3 victory over
Ethan Samora and
Alan Wang at No. 1 doubles.
The No. 2 doubles match would remain unfinished, with WashU's Drew Koval and Nathan Tam leading
Aiden Swartz and
Josh Chu, 5-2.
In singles play, Avi Mahajan topped Samora at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2, for WashU's first singles point, while #20/6 Scruggs topped Liu at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, to make it 3-0 in favor of the Bears.
Sieben would then wrap up the match for WashU at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Wang.
In the unfinished matches, Swartz trailed Fox at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 3-1, while Koval led
Joseph Xia at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 5-2. And at No. 6 singles, Nathan Tam edged Rajamani in the first game, 7-5, and led 3-1 in the second game.
With the win, the 10th-ranked and fourth-seeded Bears move to 12-7 on the year, while the 'Jackets fall to 6-11 with the loss.
Rochester will wrap up its 2025-26 campaign with the UAA Seventh-Place Matchup against No. 7-seeded NYU on Saturday, April 25 at 8:30 a.m. in Altamonte Springs, FL.
