ATLANTA - Junior Kari Joyce broke an 11-year-old school record in the 200 yard freestyle at the University Athletic Association championships at Emory University here.
She was timed in 1:56.01 in the event. That broke the record of 1:57.23 set by Kirsten Clark in 1995. Joyce finished fourth overall.
She also swam on the 800 freestyle relay which was timed in 8:03.18 (Michelle Gruen, Danielle Scherry, Karen Gromer).
Rochester's other top-eight finished was Gromer who finished sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:00.68). Keika Campbell was 14th in the same event (1:02.87). Gromer was also 12th in the 400 IM (4:45.09).
Michele Gruen was ninth in the 200 free (1:58.36), Kelly Fischer fifteenth in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.27), and Megan Savoury fifteenth in the 100 backstroke (1:04.83).
The 200 medley relay (Becky Fallon, Fischer, Kathryn Monti, and Gruen) was sixth overall (1:58.95). Rochester remained in fifth place in the team standings with 253 points. Case is sixth with 231. Carnegie Mellon is fourth with 307.
