ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Rochester finished in eighth place at the University Athletic Association women's volleyball championships after a 3-0 loss to NYU in the seventh place match.
The Yellowjackets lost to Brandeis, 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 29-27) in the final group match Saturday morning, then lost, 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-17) in the afternoon to NYU. On Friday, Rochester lost to top-ranked Emory, 3-0, and to the University of Chicago, 3-0, in the first two matches of the championships at Washington University.
Emory, which moved into the top spot in the AVCA poll earlier this week, won, 25-15, 25-10, 25-14. Chicago captured a 25-21, 25-13, 25-20 victory.
Katie Kao had 10 kills in 19 attacks against Brandeis and four blocks. Katie Drinkwater had four service aces. Kate Lewis had 20 assists. Tayler Schweigel had 31 digs, and Jessica Rasmussen had 15 digs.
In the NYU match, Cat Kane had seven kills and one block. Kao had five kills and one block. Emily Hunter had two aces, and Schweigel had 11 digs.
Against Emory, Hunter had four kills and hit .286. Schweigel had 10 digs. Rasmussen, Sarah Kauper, and Kao had two blocks apiece.
Kao had a team-high seven kills vs. Chicago. Kauper and Rasmussen had six kills Schweigel had 12 digs and two aces. Casey Larsen had eight digs.
Lewis and Maura Hamilton split setter duties vs. Chicago. Lewis had 10 assists and Hamilton had 14.
