Spikers Defeated by Washington & Brandeis

ATLANTA, GA - Rochester lost 3-1 decisions to both top-ranked Washington and to Brandeis University on Sunday in the first of two University Athletic Association round robins.

The Yellowjackets lost the first two sets against the Bears, 14-25 and 16-25, fought back to win a 25-21 decision in the third, then lost the fourth, 15-25. Against Brandeis, the Yellowjackets lost the openig set, 15-25, then hit .394 to win the second, set, 25-19. Brandeis won the third (20-25) and fourth (21-25) sets to capture the match.

Against Washington, Casey Larsen had eight kills Kelly Mulrey had six kills and eight digs. Katie Kao and Alma Guevara had six kills each. Sarah Kauper had four kills.

Guevara had one solo block and five block assists. Kao had one solo and two block assists, while Kauper had three block assists.

Jackie Fluegel had 26 assists and Sara Ribakove had 11 digs.

Mulrey produced 21 kills and 20 digs against Brandeis. Fluegel had 43 assists and eight digs. Guevara had eight kills, Kauper and Kao five each. Ribakove had seven kills and 11 digs. Lauren Bujnicki had 20 digs.

Rochester is 9-8 overall, 0-3 in the UAA. The second round robin will take place on October 16-17 at Brandeis. Rochester will play Emory, NYU, Case, and Carnegie Mellon there. The Yellowjackets are home this Wednesday against SUNY Fredonia in the annual Dig Pink match to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.
