ROCHESTER, NY- The University of Rochester men's Soccer team got a late goal from senior
Max Eberhardt (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) to beat Lycoming College 1-0 on Saturday night.
The goal came in the 72nd minute when Eberhardt headed in a goal after a corner kick from sophomore
Max Fan. The goal was Eberhardt's third on the season and first game-winning tally of the year.
Fan got Rochester (5-2-0) off to a quick start with a point blank shot on the Warrior net in the 5th minute. His shot was stopped by Lycoming keeper Connor Keenan.
In the 21st minute, Rochester got another great scoring chance when senior
Tom Sorrentino crossed a ball right to the foot of teammate
Jake Cargill, but his shot went just wide of the net. The remaining minutes of the first half gave two more chances to Fan, but nothing found the back of the net, leaving the score tied at 0-0 after 45 minutes.
10 minutes into the second half, Rochester got two more decent scoring chances off of two corner kicks by junior
Jakob Seidlitz. Both shots into the box were headed away by the Warrior defense, one clear by Will Reiber, the other by Pat Marion. A third Seidlitz corner yielded another good scoring chance by senior
Scott Zorn.
UR played very well defensively the entire game allowing only one shot at the Rochester net. Goalie
Scott Garfing was untested in net earning the shutout. Goalkeeper Connor Keenan made seven saves in net for the Warriors (5-3-1).
The Yellowjackets next play at home Tuesday at 7 pm against St. John Fisher College.
